I think the lighting and focus is fine, may be just the scan. I think Paul is confused with the DOF, which i think is also fine. As for the composition, looks fine to me, you and your child are part of the story.

I like the photo and the expression on your daughter's face. I disagree with the individual who said the focus is bad and the lighting is bad. I think you have captured a nice moment and while a photo of your daughter only might be nice, it wouldn't have the same meaning as both of you being in the frame. Don't take criticisms to heart, some people are too technically oriented and not emotionally touched by photos. I like it.

Bad lighting, bad focus. Personally, I'd crop the old man out and leave the child in solo. He's an adorable child.

Just wonderful. The smile on your child's face just makes your heart melt. An excellent capture of a really warm moment.
