About I think I spotted a funnel cloud in this picture, but it's most likely a downpour of rain. Sunset lighting.

This is so wonderfully gorgeous, Ina. The vivid colours and the play of light and shadows is marvelous. Very beautifully captured.

Thanks very much Rina! I don't like to post too many of the same subject - especially the same view in two colors. I realize the rosy colored one is better for lighting, it is a smaller crop, and I like it too, but when I post late at night, I change my mind and may not pick the best version - usually I have 2-3-...20 versions depending on the subject. I also learned my lesson to post only in daylight, as the computer screen at night is brighter and fools your eye into thinking strong contrasts are OK, but in the daytime then, the pictures appear too dark.
Thanks very much for your comments and visits :)Best regards, Ina

Hi Ina

I have to be quicker off the mark. Nothing left for me to say that hasn't already been said. Only that I think I prefer this scene and composition over the previous ones. It has a lot to do with the amazing spectrum of colour and particularly, the inclusion of the water in this one. I feel the landscape is more... complete.

Would love to see the reworked version you attached for Hugo, in panorama. Any chance of that happening? I for one, am not tired of looking at this series :)

Cheers
Rina

Thanks very much Andrzej, it was a feeling of great tranquility, it was actually great, there were no other people, butit was getting dark and the storm was on the horizon, so we had to go back. Never made it around the lake, who knows what other views I might have missed...

Thank you so much, dear Yosiyuki! I personally prefer the first one, less dramatic, but better photo - technically speaking. This one had the water which I thought was different :) Love, Ina

Thanks very much Ann! I trust the rocket scientist, and I've changed the title. I thought there was a funnel cloud, because in another version, as I darkened the sky, it appeared. But here it isn't - oh well, *you never know what other things might pop up* (private joke) - Thanks again :) Cheers, Ina

Ina:

How could I have missed your work?

This is a great shot. The second version is even stronger. You have some other shots I will be going through, but from first glance your work is very close to my own sensibility. Great shots.

Breathtaking!! Gorgeous panorama, super colors and wow what a sky... dark, menacing and I see that funnel as well... just be glad it didn't come your way... ;-D Wonderful reflections and textures in the water and excellent composition... including that 'piece of rock' in the right corner is great... and adds depth to the shot... perfect!!

I see what you mean about the dark image Ina. It looked perfect in the dim (but not dark) setting this morning when I commented. The amount of dark/light and attendant saturation gives it a very slightly underexposed look, which I like very much, especially for such a brooding landscape. But looking at it now in a room filled with bright sunlight it is definitely harder to see. It's a dilema that I guess we all face. Maybe it's best to "setup" the image for display in "normal" indoor lighting (whatever that is) because I'd expect the majority of people look at these images indoors without strong light and many times at night. Hmmm...

Thank you so much, Mark! I think I made a mistake by posting this at night. I find that in the evening the computer screen is brighter, and the picture looks fine, but viewed again the in the daytime, it seems much darker. I will try to post only in the daytime from now on. Lesson learned :) On the composition side, a place like this doesn't take much to get a good view, it's all there! Still lifes are much harder! Best regards, Ina

Such dramatic sky and weather - but it fit so well with this dramatic landscape - or rockscape!!!! I like the format you use here - make a nice panorama!

When i saw it, I exclaimed:"What a beauty!"It came out without my being aware. I believe it is the more beautiful of the two such postings, but the other one looked grander.
Thankd, dear Ina, for all your visits at my page and very kind comments, which - of course - I like.

Hi Ina, i know the feeling of posting too late at night...:) I do believe the alternative version is even a wee bit stronger than the one you chose, as it has lesss peripheral elements in the foreground, yet the spread of different hues is also what makes your choice so very appealing. I don't think I'd be able to make this choice either, let alone late at night...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hello Hugo and thanks for your comment! I actually had another version which I was about to post, and at the last minute I changed my mind and went with this one. I am attaching the other version (same picture, different crop, and a different sky) - I think in retrospect this might have been a better choice... Oh, well - that's what happens when you post late at night!
Cheers, Ina

Ina, I sense a great dramatic mood in this picture. It's wonderous landscape scene with beautiful lights and and color tones. Fantastic capture of a great nature performance in a fantastic showcase. I like this great feel of tranquility that is going to be disturbed soon - a state of peace before storm. Nicely taken and composed to the stark panorama. Great job Ina, Cheers, n.j

Ann Nida Ann Nida   {K:45248} 1/25/2006
A really beautiful scene Ina. The gorgeous red rocks agaisnt such an impending sky. Although I can see where it could be perceived as a funnel cloud as the formations seem to pour into the area of the squall, I'm afraid that looks like a very heavy rain squall and not a funnel cloud. I ran it by "rocket scientist" husband to check and he agrees. Still an amazing sky with such severe weather. I wouldn't want to be flying in that. Looks like you might have been dumped on if you hang around too long. Spectacular lighting for this shot with the sun peeping through holes in the sky. It's a powerful image Ina. Very dynamic.

Cheers - Ann :)

LOVE IT! This is my fave of your awesome recent posts. The panoramic crop is wonderful (I also enjoyed the usefilm pano version of this one). Lighting and detail are spectacular. Once agaion, just the right saturation for a dramatic effect w/o overdoing. Just super. But for me, the great strength of this shot is simply the composition. The choince of crop/framing of the landscape countours and their relationship to the water space. Also, I like that the downpour visible against the horizon is exactly oriented behind the beaute (is tha that the right word?). I bet Bob Walker will love this! Fantastic work in this and recent uploads Ina!!

Hi ina, again such a very well balanced and breathtaking panorama. The patterns of the clouds, casting their shadows on the landscape is fascinating, as is the huge shower over the mountain. A funnel cloud, heh? Hmmm. Can't really say I do see one, but I believe it's only peripheral to the feel of this image. Very strong photo.

One small thing, I find the tone of the clouds a bit blue; desaturising the blue levels just a notch would, at least for me, really make this one rock...

Cheers,

Hugo
