About Happy New Year to all. My wish is a little belated, I know, but nonetheless it is sincere.
Things have been busy and this is the first chance I have had to take a few shots.
This is my first attempt at using my new macro lens. This flower is called Paper Whites. It is quite a small flower that grows in clumps on long stems placed in water--no soil needed. Any suggestions as to how to better use my new lens are most welcome.

Mary, I'm still saying happy new year to people I'm just seeing this year so HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours. This is gorgeous. About macros I don't have a special lens just the program on my camera. What I'd suggest is something besides white because it is so hard to focus and expose. You did get the exposure right on this. Very beautiful and soft. Keep on trying! Marilyn

lighting is always tricky in macro... I have a dedicated macro flash to avoid the shadow of the lens, but sometimes I use the pop-up one with bits of white card to make it reflect and go were i want, avoiding the lens shadow...
focus is another problem, I don't own a macro lens, i do everything with bellows and tubes, so the DOF is really shallow and out of focus images are really easy to get, what i tend to do anyway, is instead of focusing with the lens I move the camera back and forth slightly until i get the desired focus point - seems easier to me.
lots of fun doing macro... :)

Hi Derek. No, I didn't use any reflectors. I had to turn my flash off because it would only light half the picture, the other was blocked by the lens. This is my first attempt at macros, so I really don't know anything about this. What I did was put the plant in different places on the floor, took some shots, looked at them until I found a spot where the light seemed to be okay. Not very scientifc, but there it is. Another thought, I was pleased with this shot and one other; but my goodnes, there were an aweful lot that looked fuzzy and weird and not good at all.

Hi Deniz. I am really sorry, but I don't know the answer to your question. This is the first time I have tried using a macro lens. I have a Kodak DX 7440 and just ordered the lens that fits it. I really don't know anything about different types. Hopefully, someone who does know will see your question and help you out. Maybe try asking someone else who has a lot of macros in their portfolio.

lovely composition and light.
Did you use any reflector for this shot? doing macros is one of the problems I find... getting the correct amount of light in the spot you want... specially outdoors.

wonderful macro I have 2 cameras one canon reflex and one kodak DX7590.
The kodak with the adapter and close up diopters is incredible good!!
you only have to use your zoom and to come closer or to move away from your objective until finding good focus. 7++++++++++++

Here is a picture of the vase with the Paper Whites. They grow from bulbs in the water. Each individual bloom is quite small so I was pleased to get a picture of one.

il bianco è splendido e ricco di dettaglio.
ottimi il taglio e l'inquadratura....
