About Taken in Bowman, Ga 12/2005. These tracks once carried many loads of cotton, timber and, yes, even passengers. They were known as "mixed" trains. I think the once famous SOUTHERN RAILROAD owned these tracks many years ago.
Believe it or not, these tracks still carry a load of Freight to the mainline in Toccoa, Ga . USA occassionally. Please note, the rapidly deterioating building on other side of tracks is where cotton was stored until next day when freight stopped to take it on. ( Polarizer filter used on this photo)

Thanks Gayle, I forgot to tell you that I only live about 40 miles from Athens and, in the past, have taken a lot of photos there.

Thanks Laura. You are right-I know of several spots in my area where you can still see the railroad "bed", but tracks are long gone.

Nicely composed and like the FG interest as well as the color and historical significance...

BTW, do you remember the sodapop called "Budwine" that was made in Athens,GA.? I just learned that they no longer make it and i wanted to find some so my son could taste it...such a unique flavor!

Good colors, light and details in this image. It is sad, that so many of the old tracks are being abandoned.
