Hi Vikram, sudhir has identified it rightly, it's Small Blue Kingfisher. I live in Surat. I am employed in a private Steel Plant, which made a pond to prevent encroachment( sorry not lake, mistake is unintentional)next to it's township. Also inside our plant there is one large reservoir which attract birds. My knowledge about birds & animals is not deep enough.

Hi Sujit. Semms that u live in a nice place with artificial lake. Where's it? Nice image this one. I love the composition. But can ya clear the confusion about the kingfisher's identity? Cheers

Sudhir I don't think it's a 'small blue'. To me it looks larger and the color pattern suggests it to be a 'White-throated/White-breasted' Kingfisher. I'm not sure though and I find Sujit has written common kingfisher. Now, 'Common Kingfisher' obviously translates to Small Blue, but I'm not sure whether he uses this word 'Common' just for the literary meaning of it or as a proper noun. Let's ask Sujit about it. Cheers

An amazing capture of a Small Blue Kingfisher!! I mean away from an electric wire or a horizontal branch over a water. Kudos!!

Just beautiful --- erasing the background makes it a minimalist approach with greatest impact of the subject. Color saturation on the bird is remarkably effecctive.

well I think you intentionally overexposed the background...and whether or not you did, the effect works...bird, perch and plant...good color shows on all...I think the image is excellent

Some small nits...a bit overexposed and the subject is pushed to the backround with the branch bisecting it. Also it's a bit too centered.
