About A composite image. I shot the woman on the dock at a local lake. The background was blended in PS. I guess this day I felt that the vastness of the horizon and the serenity of the ocean was a great thing to ponder. Your constructive comments are always welcomed.

Kind of wish you hadn't underlined the P/S suspicion I had! Thought it was a great one - until I saw David's version, which actually improved it and concentrated the eye more. Still, yours was the original idea and execution..

....the pontoon does look (a little) imported! this shot could perhaps have more power if there were variation or atmosphere in the light, the contents could do with a little more space I feel, but the idea is good, the rocks are great but you could dissappear the left hand one to effect...good on you for having a go, I have taken the liberty of messing with your work and done a really amateur job of removing the rock!!!cheers david

Hi Kevin,
Great job with the composite, the tones and shadows are matched perfectly, the left rock follows the girl's outline, and the title could as well be "between a rock and a..."
My only nitpick is her legs, they seem to disappear from the hips. You must have erased on her layer the bulk of the upper part from the hips to the knees. I could do a sample of what I think it should look like, if you want, but I think you know what I mean.
Excellent composition, I love the personal items on the dock, my eye goes from the girl to the rocks, to the sky, and back to the book & sandals. Great B & W tones and a fantastic image!

Hi Kevin,
One thing I would like to mention that I don't think anyone else has so far, is that you did a good job making sure that the shadows are all going in the right direction. This is not always easy to do when combining images.
I think I understand what a couple of people are saying about the large rocks competing with the girl for the honour of being the main subject. This might have been solved by having the rocks set back further in the background. Not sure if it would have been possible for you to do that. The toning is fine. I doubt colour would have added to the image.

Very good PS work, I cannot tell that it is a composite. The rock on the left seems to mimic the curve in her shoulder, this creates a nice flow to the piece.

After reading the other comments about your composition, this next point seems to come down to preference; I think that the woman should be centered in the frame. I find that the rock on the right is competing with the girl for the role of subject. I think that if the girl were in the center of the frame, the subject would be more clearly defined.

A minor point in a wonderful photograph.

This is very nice work. I love the way the subject is positioned between the two rocks. The books and shoes on the dock beside her add nice detail. The sky is beautiful with a lot of depth. I've looked at this twice now, and it's only on the second viewing that I thought the arms and legs of the subject appear just a bit "amputated". Maybe if the hands were just a little visible or she was sitting in a different way it would help. That's really just a little thing that I only noticed after staring at the photo for a while, so perhaps it's actually nothing. Really nice work in my eyes.

I like how you captured this scene and I like how it was composed. very moody picture of a subject sitting at the end of a dock framed by two huge rocks... Her things by her side while viewing the horizon in between the rocks... very good tone in black and white... great shot! cheers!

Well done, very belivable. I would have never guessed in was a composite. Searching for a constructive critique........

I think a horizontal composition might have worked well here. I am also wonder about your choice of B&W here. Color might have been a welcome element on this one.
