Beautiful work - I'm sure the small image here doesn't do the original print justice.

Ina, if you care to see this image a little larger, you can check my pbase "retrospective" portfolio at: http://www.pbase.com/emueller/retrospective Large format film photography is too expensive and time consuming for me now. I couldn't lug this equipment around even if the spirit were willing. We can't beat the quality and realism of large format with our puny digital equipment but we have one great advantage. We can take a lot of pictures cheaply, get quick feedback, and therby learn a lot more about compositional technique. I have taken more photos digitally in 3 months than I could have taken in 3 years with large format film equipment. Eb

Kathy, this is one of my favourites. I looked back through my old negatives and noticed that I had experimented with this motif in black and white and in different film formats. Can't beat the colour! Yes, these are all my images and it is amazing that I still have so many negatives left after all this time. Eb

Stunning detail and texture, lots of interest in such a simple thing as a hinge - it's the colors and sharpness for me, the technical quality is awesome, and so is the composition. Great work! Ina

I love this shot Eb! The textures and details in the wood are so good! Did you take these shots in the 70's? Whoever took them cettainly had a good eye for composition! Kathy

Thanks Susie. I am doing a retrospective series by going through my old 4x5 negatives - those that survived 33 years of many moves. Scans from these large format negs are quite detailed! Eb

Thanks for commenting, Tom. I did have a print of this, which I gave away. From my memory, it seems the print was far better than what can be displayed on the monitor. Nevertheless, I enjoyed scanning these old negatives and recreating the original mood. Eb

I like the angles and various lines you've got here, Eb, as well as the texture and detail of the grain and knots in the old wood. The painted hinge provides a nice splash of colour. Dave.
