About This was the first guided astrophoto I have taken. Polar alignment was off, so the stars at the edges of the field are little arcs.

Thx for your suggestions on my wide-field Orion shot! As you can tell, I started astronomy and astrophotography only last August so a very rank beginner. I have since learned that negatives can only get ruined by labs, and use the E200. My polar aligning is apalling, and my guiding abilities even worse, so I have no really long exposures that succeed! I tried M31 MANY times, but fell to light polution and field rotation and guiding errors each time! Please, please PLEASE tell me these aren't shot in NYC because that would shoot my "light pollution" excuse right out of the sky... pun intended!

Wonderful!!! Keep posting more space shots. My grandfather was an astronomer and mathmetician. He had star parties with his students, and I got to join in as a child. This image makes me think of those days, a cherished memory. Thank you.

Thanks Taras. I've been looking to get an LX200GPS. The piggyback hassy shots will be awesome. Hope to see more deep-sky shots.

Steve,

I used my Meade 8" f/6.3 LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain. I had taken a lot of unguided piggy-back shots before finally taking this one actually through the scope, and figured I needed to go through with manually guiding a few exposures before using my autoguider. There is a lot of vignetting because of the focal reducer. I plan on revisiting this object in the fall with a 500mm lens on my Hasselblad piggy-backed on the scope.

I also shot the Andromeda Galaxy with my 135mm f/2.8 Minolta manual focus lens. It looks tiny at this focal length, but the stars are points all the way to the corners.

Taras

Very nice for your first time and hand-guided. Your alingment wasn't off by far. Which scope did you use?
