About I got so many shots of "The Chaser" when I was on the landing last week that I decided to combine them in a collage. Susie and I might get a chance to go back up there one day this week, weather permitting.

Hi Amy,
I'm so sorry that I haven't gotten back to you!
I would love to explain how to do the collages, but there are so many steps to it that I'm not sure if I could explain it right. The best way to figure it out would probably be to get one of the many Photoshop books and just make sure that it has the directions in it. If you would like me to try to explain it I would prefer to do it in a personal e-mail. My address is khillard48@cs.com If that would work for you just shoot me off an email and I'll give it a whirl!

Gayle's Eclectic Photos Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91109} 3/14/2006
hi there, very well presented captures of an aspect of the great PNW...i like all except for the one shot of his back on bottom center because it shows him larger than the other smaller ones and it is his back mostly filling that frame...

Now,per Mr.Coffey's complaint,i checked all of the url's of your comments that he provided here and not one of them was showing you acting negative toward his critiques...baffling to say the least!....and i agree with Rina's comment
regards,gayle
(haven't heard back from Ann for several days now and don't know if they are still here...)

A real stunner Kathy. You don't need to look for praise. It will come without asking. I think if you were to hang a big blow up of this and hang it on your cafe wall customers would flock in .

But i have been looking at all the posting. YOu have done a great job with this photo.
Can you explain to me how you do this type of collage?? i have several photos that i want to do in this type of image but not sure how to do it...i use both PS and Gimp
thanks again

Hi Kathy....this is a lovely collage of a man at his work and it makes a great extension to those you posted before. I really ought to keep trying collages because they can be so effective.
I see Mr.Coffey fell out of his pram again, or perhaps his carers didn't know he was missing from the ward. Well done to you sweetie, all the very best....Ray

Bob, I think he gives way too much thought to his choice of words. Am disappointed to see that his comments still endure here. He has gone beyond constructive critisism and entered the realms of harrassment, or worse - stalking. Pity that a man with such admirable photographic ability should behave like such an irrational child. Good on you for wanting to take a stand, but I fear that's precisely the reaction he was hoping for. Take care!

Kathy, keep smiling and keep posting dear :)

Cheers
Rina.

Hi Kathy, Some people have too much time on their hands but...this guy doesn't look like one of them! I especially like the bottom center shot...looks like he's finished his job and satisfied with his work. Good job putting this together!
Take care...Robin

Douglas,
Aren't you going just a little over the top? Maybe you should give a little thought to your choice of words. I don't know if Pepto-Bismol works on keyboards, but if there was ever a time to try it... now is it.

Hi Kathy,
I understand completely about feeling privelaged in such a situation and not wanting to get in the way!
I think a successful photojournalist probably has to be quite insensitive at times in the quest of great character study images. That's probably also why so many of the Paparazzi have such a bad reputation.
I got lucky with a shot many years ago that sort of depicts the type of insensitivity that I'm talking about.
This is an image of a race driver being harassed only seconds after he got out of his car. He won the race and was driving hard for two and a half hours in 100 degree heat. But, the photographers just can't wait to get a camera in his face. This is one of my first serious attempts at photography, so I'ts a favourite of mine. It's ironic that in this case, I got a pretty good image by not forcing myself right on top of him.
Sometimes you get lucky :)
Andre

Another P.S. Dear Kathy ...

I am going to start another Forum Thread after a long time titled "THE ESSENCE OF CRITIQUEING", so I am making a formal photographic comrade type of request to reference several of your images ... is that Okay?

TIA, (Thanks In Advance)!

Dear Kathy and Attention everyone else:

http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=945225
http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=954435
http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=957996

Three examples for the true picture, (pun intended), ... :))

P.S.

Quite the contrary I believe the author of this piece is prejudiced concerning what I was going to say ...

Dishonest about never responding negatively to constructive criticism ...

And that she is actually the 'snide' one instead because I was simply asking permission because of the new CC, (Critique Corner), feature which this piece of hers was not placed in ...

Hmmm ... I guess she must have missed that one as she says ...

And all I wanted to do as I have for four years on this Site was offer very meaningful and constructive critiques instead of those nothing but complimentary 'No Brainer' comments ...

What is this Site coming to ... a Family Webshots Attitude?

I like this one. Shows the man hard hard at work, nice detail in the foreground with the misty feeling in the background.

Douglas,
Against my better judgement I will respond to your comment. I have no idea what gives you the idea that I want nothing but praise. I don't remember ever responding negatively to any constructive criticism, and have learned much from honest critiques. I've certainly never seen any point in snide remarks, and am really not interested in that type of comment. Also...I wasn't aware that comments on this site were by invitation. Hmmm...I must have missed that one.

Hi Andre,
Thanks for your comment! Your suggestion is an admirable one! I agree that this would be a stronger image with a face or two. Unfortunately, I was spending the entire time just trying to stay out of the way! :( I felt very priviledged to be allowed on the landing at all, so I didn't want to interfere. Maybe next time...if there is a next time!

Great collage, Kathy, very well put together series of action shots, as well as presenting the environment he does his work in. Andre had a good idea, but it may not be possible to include shots like that. Very well done!
Dave.

A fabulous collage consisting of a beautiful series of pictures depicting a man at work. Most of them are worthy to be singly posted.
Great work. Congratulations.

Hi Kathy,
I'ts a good idea to do this kind of "theme" collage once in a while. I have commented on the rest of this logger series, so I won't go into too much detail.
I do have one suggestion and it's probably a little hard to take. In the whole collage, there are no face on shots. Imagine how much better the impact of this collage would be if two or more of these shots of the logger were of close - cropped portraits? (to show the character of the man)
I know it certainly is hard to ask a stranger to look up at the camera. Some people are very camera shy, but others might surprise you with a willingness to "look at the birdie"

Daer Kathy,

I'll pass on this one also as so many others which will somewhat just suit you fine because I do not believe that you want a constructive critique or otherwise but praise only ... Yes/No?

Suggestive Hint:

I was going to be very deliberate concerning:

Photographer's Philosophy;
Subject Matter including Mankind's Concerns;
Composition of Subject Matter;
Clarity & Exposure;
Compilation & Layout;

Etc., Etc., Etc.

But you probably don't want to hear about all that ... Right?

Best of Regards!

P.S. Photojournalism is of the essence here and I should perhaps be allowed to speak although without an invitation I will remain silent ...

Wow! I can't get over how bare the mountain is behind him. Very disturbing. Unfortunately that is what grabs my attention, but your sequence is quite good. Very well put together especially in regard tot he symmetry of his pose as he works through out your image.

See how competitive I am? I'm almost ashamed of myself! ) Now that I was first, here's my input:
Really cool collage Sissy, and very well put together. I will betcha he's gonna love this, I don't care how many times he's been in Loggers World!
I like how you lined up the hats on the outer photos both top and bottom.
My fav is either the middle one or the middle bottom. All are really nice action shots.
GREAT job!
Suz
