About He's checking the last Polaroid while I take another. What ever happened to that guy? Maybe the ladies know.

The vignetting effect comes from using the Nikon Speedmagny Polaroid with 4 built in mirrors. I Don't use it much since digital. Maybe I should drag it out again. Any comments?

Hi, Loren. We actually booked Becka - the one with the glasses - for a trip and you can see one of the ads featuring her in the November 29 entry on my blog:

Glad you like it, Jorge.

My assistant with the models -- camping it up. He was judging the first Polaroid for our beach shoot. The girls were testing for a swimwear trip to Paradise Island. The girl on the right was chosen.

Thanks for commenting. Good call -- it was actually late seventies.

Hi, Loren. You are right on the date. Glad you like it. They are trying to bring those big ones back, too. She definitely had some attitude. Thanks for noticing. Loved you comment.

Great shot! I love the model on the right with the cool 70's suit and the big sunglasses!

So glad this gave you a BeeGee's moment, John. I can identify with that. And I am sure the girls would have loved to be Charlie's Angels.

I looked at this image and many things came to mind:

Trans Am, Captain and Tennille, Charlie's Angles, Lee Majors, Pong, and that annoying porn music.

That's what makes this image different from all the others that are now digital - it's got history without manipulation.

I got go, I need to play some Bee Gee's for some reason....

nice work :)

A Polaroid taken through the Speed Magny tends to vignette, when using shorter lenses, and the print has a softness to it. I like the blurring of the horizon line.

I guess you could call it "old school" - we never use Polaroid now to check lighting, because it is so easy with digital. Although we use the Minolta meter when lighting is critical - especially for video.

Thanks, Nacho. The Nikon SpeedMagny actually provides the vignetting when you use a lens longer than the 50 mm. Surprising backlit effect on a hazy day.

Hi, Orazio. The pose was not hard for the assistant, who could do this all day long. Glad you like the photo. It was fun to find it in our archive.

Thanks, Claire for your enthusiastic response.

The girls are professional models and the guy is my best bud. We have been in photography together for over 30 years - met in the 70's. We are working on a webpage for Long & Long.

i've really got a thing for vintage photographs. this shot is great...and the fact its authentic is even better! who is the photographer/assistant? should i know?! i really like how the pose of the women is kind of like a beauty pagent, waiting, posing, competing...and i would kill for those sun glasses!
i strive to get a vintage, 70s look in many of my images with lighting and a kind of tungsten thing, but im unable to get something anything like this, suppose there is no beating the real thing! thank you for sharing this image, its a real treasure!

Thanks, Adrian for your comment. You are right. As a stand alone, this looks like the photographer opening the Polaroid being taken be the assistant. We are fine with that interpretation, because we are partners.

My "assistant" is a fine photographer in his own right and I got a kick out of photographing him with the 2 beautiful models we had hired for the job.

It is a vintage photo, as you thought, that we found in our archives recently and wanted to share. I am glad you enjoyed it.

You are on the money, Roby. A Seventies' shot! How did you guess? Must have been the models' hair...

But can you guess who the "assistant" is?

Thanks for your astute observation.

I wonder whether what this photo is 'about', would have been obvious, without your comments, or the title. Possibly not, as a standalone image, to someone not professionally involved in photography. Some other clues, within the image, might have been helpful. (It could, for example, have been a photograph, by the assistant, of the photographer!)

That criticism aside, it is a lovely image: warm, glamorous, friendly, alive. The vignetting, poses, costumes, tonal range and graininess hark back to possibly happier times, when things didn't have to be explicit to be sexy! Possibly, that's what it's really 'about'!
