Rob; Great shot. Beside the sharpness; I like the use of the rule of "Golden Proportion" versus "Rule of Thirds". The use of vertical/diagonal imagery makes a great shot of this young one... Good to be bold once in a while. This is the type of imagery I use to teach photography to kids... :-)
Cheers,
Bill

Hey Todd . The reason that I thought that this might be a young Hairy Woodpecker , was that there was actually two birds present during this shoot . The other was somewhat smaller but with a noticeably shorter bill . Distinctly different . So I assumed that this MUST be a Hairy . But like I said , I really was not sure . Thank's for the comment . I appreciate it . Now that the weather is getting better , I will be out shooting and posting more :)

Hi Rob,
Haven't heard from you for a while. Good to see you back and posting again. Great detail and lighting in this shot. This is, however, a female Downy Woodpecker. You can tell by how short the bill is. They are difficult to tell apart, though. The bill and the general size are the main differences, and they are subtle.
Great subject and superb capture!
Todd
