Despite the difference in climate, we seem to have a similar population of birds, with slight differences in colors. This one is especially appealing with its red background. He (I think it's a male, that's what males look like here) seems to be looking straight at the camera, apparently not afraid at all.
Thank you, Dave, for your detailed comments on my recent photos.
Best regards,
Rafi

Hi Dave,

You have captured this little guy very well! The details are superb and the composition is striking. This is, however, a House Sparrow, and was an introduced species to North America.

"House Sparrows are the most abundant songbirds in North America and the most widely distributed birds on the planet. House Sparrows are not actually sparrows, but are Old World Weaver Finches, a family of birds noted for their ingenious nest-building abilities."

See http://www.nabluebirdsociety.org/sparrow.htm for more info.

The Chipping Sparrow has a red crown and a black eye stripe. See http://www.usefilm.com/image/958075.html

Hope you don't mind my saying so. I am very passionate about birding and I just like to share information. I don't mean to sound like Cliff Claven, ;^)

Keep up the good work, Dave!

Todd

Merci Dave pour votre commentaire. Voici une photo qui montre bien qu'un simple moineaux, à qui nous ne portons pas beaucoup attention, est quand même un bel oiseau. Il est beau sur son fond rouge.

Just stunning Dave. Again the powerful eye you capture and the texture and colours of its feathers. But the setting is really effective. To see the texture of the diagonal stones against such colour. Just Brill!

A nice capture of an often overlooked bird Dave. The background works really well in this case.
We have some really pretty Sparrows in the Toronto area too. I didn't realize how many types there were until we started feeding them.
