About Not all flies are dirty, contrary to what many believe. I took a whole series of photos of this fly. It would forage for nectar in the daisy flower for about a minute. Walk up to a petal, cleanse itself properly from all pollen for about a minute and then go for the next session of nectar harvesting. The ritual will be repeated in the same order every time, starting with the huge mouth parts (folds up underneath the head - with three joints) and then moving to the eyes, thorax, wings and lastly the abdomen and legs. Taken with the 105mm micro Nikkor and the Panagor 2.75X macro converter. magnification about 2X life size. Slightly cropped and brightnes, contrast and sharpness adjusted in PS.

Beautifully done Joggie.

For a 1/250 shutter speed at f16 you must have used artificial lighting. What flash system do you use?

Very impressive indeed.

Thanks Eb for all the comments! I have a ste of close up lenses but since I got the Panagor I hardly use them. The quality loss in terms of sharpness and abberations is noticable while the fine detail is retained with the Panagor macro converter. The Panagor is similar to a tele-coverter but is designed to convert a 50mm normal lens into a 1:1 macro. It has a handy zoom funtion with which you can seemlessly adjust the magnification ratio between 1:10 and 1:1. If you type Panagor in at Google you will find it and a myriad other camera accesories. Take care.

Your super macro is very effective. Here I like the soft background tonality you were able to achieve - it makes that sharp eye detail just pop out in contrast. I am inspired, Joggie! I don't have the extension rings, so might not get into as high a magnification as you are able to achieve. Have you tried close up lenses in front of you macro instead of the converter rings?

Another very fine macro, Joggie. It is fascinating to see these creatures in such detail. I love it. Cheers, Ann.

This is an amazing shot Joggie . . . the DOF is good and the background color is a perfect contrast to the darker tones of your subject matter. The amazing focus can allow us to almost count the lenses on the fly's eye! You've managed to complete a superb composition with a difficult subject and the whole is framed nicely and elegantly presented. Very well done.

Oh Joggie - if only you knew that my Macro aim in life is to get a fly's eye like that!!!
I guess I will just have to put a macro converter on my wish list first....
By the way - this guy missed a speck of pollen above his 'middle' leg.
Absolutely stunning shot - well WELL done!!!!!!!
Regards
Shirley

One of the most amazing macros I seen. What a good job! Love it!

He even has hairs on his head (SHARP ones also).
Perfect in details and composition. Glad it was this yellow flower he was in. Their eyes are so interesting!

It's not so much that flies are dirty....it's just the 'choice' things they land on!! :)

GOOD IMAGE,
so well done,
Lori :)

You make here a good observation. Your perfect shot explodes the operation of "my" fly, in attachement.
Ciao.
