I love this one Paul, this has a great perspective, and the angle makes it dynamic. I read the other comments and went to see the color version - both are equally strong, this one is my favorite, some subjects actually are stronger without color, although I liked the colors in the original too. With regards to the poles, I agree that you included them, usually two objects (such as here the 2 buildings) seem to need a third. Not always, but here the poles add that 3rd element tension and rounded shape. I am starting to shoot skyscrapers and I find the angle necessary - especially because I like horizontal compositions. Very, very good!

Beautiful shot. I like the compo and B&W tones. I want to make to you a question: Why not a view from the top of those buildings, one of these days?

Paul,

A really cool perspective...and angle. I like the fact the you have the two flag poles and Bldgs balanced it adds to your illusion.

Best Wishes,
Chuck

nice to see this type of shot. just rotating the image one way or the other can make a huge difference. i'm beginning to think all my images are looking the same as one another and i need to try something different. thanks for a bit of inspiration.

best wishes ~ james

Great pov Paul. The detail is so crisp makes me impressed that you took this handheld at 1/8sec. But I guess it would have been hard to get your tripod to do that distortion.:) The flag poles belong. They finish off the top nicely. Regards Ron.

Awesome perspective. Been twisting my head around trying to get a handle on how you've achieved this. Hasn't helped and now I have a sore neck! :)) Really clever photography Paul. Good decision converting to B&W too, much more impact here than in colour I believe. Like looking at a scene from a futuristic movie and half expecting to see flying cars zoom across the screen...

Love it.
Rina.

Paul, my photo of that couple selling potted plants, on which you kindly commented, was a double-post, and in deleting one of them I lost that comment of yours... Nothing personal, you understand. [grin]

Hi Paul,
An excellent cityscape! A very interesting perspective and great detail in the B&W conversion.
PS
It reminds me a lot of some of Thilo Bayer's work.

beautiful perspective, its like magic... I like how you followed the vertical line of the building at the right and you ended it with the poles parllel to the horizontal... Magic! TO take this successfully as you did you must find the perfect spot where to capture it for this composition... The title Vertical Symmetry is very suitable,, a twist in logic..
Wonderful shot.. I like it very much.. congrats!

Paul,
Wicked angel!!! I love the composition! Brilliant job w/ the depth. The flag poles (?) fight a very good fight against the building in this, however, I love the contrast that they add!

very well done!

I think I'd want to see what a rectangular fisheye did to those severely straight lines... (no place for barrel distortion normally, of course, but like this unusual point-of-view, somehow if it's obviously deliberate it suddenly becomes OK), This shot is more than merely OK. It's positively splendid!

Hi Paul,
Very nice composition and upward perspective, it feels like I'm stretching my neck to see the top of the buildings. The B&W mode works very nice here. Well done!

Mark Julian Mark Julian   {K:36866} 4/16/2006
I like it. Kinda has a "spy camera" vibe to it for some reason. Or maybe taken from a spy satellite and then the image is reflected in a mirror close to the ground that the satellite sees. Very modern and futuristic Paul. Very nice job, a 7 from me (like in 007 :~>) Mark PS. Tell James a happy Easter from me, and to you too - lol

Salvatore Rossignolo   {K:13559} 4/16/2006
Absolutely BOLD! I love it. The focus on the balls and the lack of focus on the pole bottoms is really creative. Awesome ! I guess this is a twilight shot and the B&W is a great choice Paul.

I like this unusual perspective, Paul. It is a thrilling visual ride and does induce tad of vertigo, until one becomes grounded at the far right bottom corner. The b&w tones are superb.

Hugo, thanks for the comments.. glad that you like the photo. I know what you mean about b/w NYC images. I have seen some great ones from you. The nice thing about UF is that you can see images taken in ways you never thought of.. I know I have seen a lot of unique compositions. The color photo is an old one and the version on UF has JPEG artifacts etc.. but, here is the link to it. http://www.usefilm.com/image/247107.html

HiPaul, Love this angle. unusual, but with this perspective, perfectly acceptable, and besides, it takes the scene nicely out of it's perspective. Somehow, I think NYC screams to be captured in black and white. There's not much to argue about this photo, it's strong, tough, bold, and very well captured... Very impressive shot. Every now and then there's a photo which I wouldn't have taken differently... (not that this means a lot, and it definitely doesn't say anything about the quality... heheheh) It does mean I like it. A lot!

Cheers,

Hugo
