City - San Andres Itzapa State - Country - Guatemala
About
Guatemala Voodoo: San Simon known as Maximon by the Indians, is a famous Guatemalan tradition and its origins is unknown. San Simon is an actual Guatemalan God and a big part of the population believe in it, but they keep this tradition a secret, so be discrete to ask. There are several San Simons in the country the famous ones are in Nahuala and Zunil in Quetzaltenango state, 3 hours from Antigua, Santiago Atitlan in Panajachel also a couple of hours away and the San Andres Itzapa which is located only 30 minutes away by car. They believe that his incredible powers grant you protection from evil spirits, spells and enemies, he also provides wives, husbands, lovers, money, jobs, luck etc... The worship of this God is a mix of pagan rituals (Indians) and Christian religion, as an example one way of asking is to curse, spit, smoke and drink alcohol in front of him while Christ is evoked.
Another fine composition in this series revolving around this great mix of beliefs my dear Alison and I am relieved, for the Indians' sakes, that San Simon seems to be a 'good guy'. The colours and details are fantastic given the awkward shooting situation...Well done to you sweetie and thank-you for all your wonderful visits. It is me that is now behind, but it happens every week due to work. I hope you are keepng well Alison. My very best wishes to you as always....Ray
Good work Dear Alison, lots of triabgular shapes whch reduce the bussiness of the image with no horizontal or vertical lines to balance! Welcome Back, We all missed you, Well Done to you, Mohammad
Quite a mixture of beliefs, Alison! I like the shot of the alter with the nice warm lighting showing off the colours fully. BTW, congrats on the new camera! How do you like the E 500? And thanks for the bundle of comments in my email today...a very pleasant surprise! Dave.
