About I was just playing around in my back yard. I have too many trees to view the moon unhindered without going into my front yard. I took this picture of the moon through the tree branches. Next week I am going to try the real deal. No trees in front. Any good tips or techniques?

Well done Kelly. The moon has a good look to it. Not an easy subject to shoot. Regards Ron.

My suggestion, Kelly, is to make a composite of two photos, the moon and the trees. I doubt you will get a telephoto rendering with both subjects sharp any other way.

Hi kelly, I thought from the title that there was something there on spot light, then after reading your about did i realize it was the moon you're after. I think you must have overexpose this shot for the moon. In less than two week, we we have a full moon again, I think that would be the best time to take it.
It has been awhile since i took a shot of the moon, if my memory is right I think at iso 100 on a clear sky i expose it at f/8 at 1/100 sec. give and take 2 stops depending on preferred result.
good luck Kelly!

Just keep experimenting my dear Kelly...I haven't done any night shots in years but Dave's advice is sound. The beauty of digital is that it costs about the same for taking 1 shot as a 100 shots. Try all the combinations. I love the shot through the trees and it makes an excellent start for the next phase of experimentation. Good luck sweetie. Very best wishes to you as always....Ray

Good hallowe'en shot, Kelly, all you need is the witch on a broom!
When you try it with the clear shot of the moon bracket your exposures and focus on infinity and experiment from there. There have been quite a few good moon shots posted, someone will probably be able to give you more detail help!
Dave.
