I'm glad that you went back deep in my portfolio to find this one Glen. The images from this particular Auto graveyard means a lot to me because the cars here are subjects that I took a lot of images of over 35 years ago. These were some of the first images that I worked with in a darkroom as part of photo arts projects. I had a lot of fun re-taking them 35 years later. This one was one of the results.
Here in Toronto we will have the first November in a very long time without any snow. It has been unusually warm for this time of year. Still cold by Florida standards. :) Andre

Hi Thilo, I had a lot of fun with these old favourite models of mine :) I must have taken 50 or 60 images this time. I'll be doing a couple more at least :) It was a very special feeling going back there. I'm glad my brother was with me, so I got to duplicate the scene from the 70's. When I asked him to pose beside the car, I don't think he remembered my original shots of him with the car. When I prepared these for Usefilm, I emailed him the before and after pics. Andre

Hi Andre,
I love these series with the old Chevy. Glad you've been there again. The toning fits the aging aspect very well.

Hi Andrzej, I think the more time passes, the cooler they get! I just attached a colour version for comparison. My personal preference for images like this is B&W, but some nice colour with dark shadows works for me too:) Andre

Denis, it stays cool and even still attracts after decades. Color may show some rust so I understand your conversion to B&W to hide some of the aging symptoms. Coll scene, done really the way I like. Cheers, n.j

Hi Hugo, I suppose the main reason why I posted this one in a B&W tone is that I wanted to remain faithful to the spirit of the original image that I took in 1970. I didn't quite get the toning the same as the copy I posted last year. My photographic roots are in b&w too, and I still enjoy trying for that nice balance of greyscale.
I have nothing against colour images though. I can attach a small colour image of this one when I prepare one later today. I'm going to post another from this series of a different vehicle, maybe I'll try it in a nice muted colour tone. Andre

Hi Andre,
Very cool shot, the worn down chevy and textures even show nicely in B&W. I see your point of emphasising the old feel of the car by converting this to B&W (or at least I presume I can see your point...:)) but I'still curious to learn what the colour version looks like, IMHO, leaving it in colour might've created a more confronting and natural look, showing the material decay and textures to their full extend. Obviously, that's also quite influenced by my personal preference.
Either way, I like this view, good details and a good photo.
Cheers,
hugo

Yes Larissa, You are right. It is almost like these old vehicles have an aura around them from all the lives they were involved with over the years. Andre

Thanks Andre, I thought I'd taken it down before anyone noticed! Yeah, my husband saw it and phoned to tell me that it looked a bit strange, almost fake and thought I might have been taking drugs for posting it! But I will work on it a little more and post again when I get out of rehab ;)

Hi Kathy, One of the reasons why I still have these old photos and negatives is because they are some of the first that I fully developed and printed myself in a proper darkroom. The originals were made on double-weight poly contrast paper, the film was Kodak Tri-x 400. Camera was a Nikon Nikkormat FTN (which I still own and still works great) I have a lot of my old prints framed and laying around me on the floor right now. :) Andre

Hi Rina, I was totally amazed how little had changed, for that amount of time. BTW What happened to the beach shot? I was just about to comment on it and you must have taken it down. I assume you are making a couple of changes to it, but it seemed pretty good to me. Andre

Wonderful re-visit Andre and how awesome to note the change in tree girth over the 36year passage of time. Sure, you know and appreciate that that has got to happen but none the less fascinating to see. An excellent mono toned composition with great details and textures. Well done to you my friend...All the best....Ray

Hi Dave, I was amazed at how little this car had changed in going on 40 years. There are a few others around too. All windshields are still un-broken. I felt just like a kid again going back there.
You're right, the tree has actually pushed the door in a bit over the years. In the original, the tree is about 4 or 5 inches from the door. Andre

Amazing how some things stay the same, Andre! It's interesting to see the growth of the tree against the door, though! Nice crisp details! Dave.
