thanks for all the comments, i actually have two versions of this picture, in the second the d.o.f is actually deeper but i liked the feel of this one more. maybe ill post it one day :)

Beautiful composition. I think the shallow depth of field adds to the photo, rather than detracts from it. It makes the subject seem even more isolate, more "alone."

My comment will be pretty much opposing everyone elses comments. I think this photograph is one of the best I have ever seen. I love the use of the shallow depth of feild, it brings out the idea of the picture. It makes you long for something off in the distance. This shot is just simply amazing!

Excellent composition. Maybe larger DOF and/or higher contrast in the vegetation would have made the bushes seem less blurred.

A lovely composition for my taste: the idea you have expressed in the title is really very well rendered; it seems there is a lack of field depth, though. Ans the background consequentially looks blurred. regards.
