About ... this abandoned rail line has been converted to a recreational trail but I was the only one out on this partuicular day, attracted by the late fall colours caked in freezing rain ...

John! That's so great, congratulations!

The attached photo is excellent, I like the contrast of the blues in the snow along the ground with the more brownish tones in the sky, off behind the trees. I also love the very encompassing feel the shot has, very much giving it the impression of being it's very own, seperate and distinct (wonder)land. The bluish trees more in the fore on either side of the more brown-ish distant sky keep the focus inward, again, making it very encompassing. It actually kinda feels like being inside a snow globe :)

Thank you all for your comments and encouragement. This photo was indeed accepted into the Art at the Festival Show & Sale, part of the Warkworth Maple Syrup Festival. My goal in entering this juried competition was to have one of my three entries accepted. You can imagine my excitment therefore when not one, but two of my photos were accepted and the second (Winter Wonderland - se attachment) was judged Best in Show above a large field of oils, acrylics, watercolours, pottery, sculture and of course photography.

The experience has been extremely validating for me and makes me wonder why I have held back for so long. Actually, I do know the reason... I needed to get into a head space where I was creating the work solely for myself and not for others. Having reached that plateau in my artistic maturity, I can now move forward into further public envolvement.

Several thousand people will likely view the art exhibit over the weekend festival and a cash prize of $200 goes along with the bragging rights, but along with the acceptance of my artistic peers the real bonus of this weekend is that people (the general public and other artists) are looking at these photographs as works of art equal in every way to painting, sculpture and other media entered in the competition.

For the next few days, you can read a little more about the show and see a larger version of my winning entry at http://www.eastnorthumberland.com/thisweek.html

Beautiful photo, captures the solitude of winter country side very well. I like your website also and good luck with the competition in March.

Thanks folks. I got a really good print of this one and have summoned enough courage to submit it and two other photographs into a juried art competition in March. That's a first for me.

Very nice image John... I can feel the cold just looking at this image. Would have been cool to see someone walking down that road in the distance, but I like it just as is. I think this would make a good stock pic...similar to one an instructor showed once and he had sold the image numerous times....*smile* ... Maggie
