Whoa - wait a minute - did I tell you about the whole "Captain Morgan" thing or did you just pull that out of left field?

What's weird is that's often my alias for video games, forums, etc. It all started a while back when some friends and I were all playing poker and I started talking like a pirate (I don't know why... there wasn't any liquor involved...), but they started calling me "Captain Morgan" or "Cap'm" and it stuck.

What's more, I'm wearing my Captain Morgan shirt right now.

Strrrannnge...

Yeah, I wouldn't think that you could do such work in a hurry. I like that crop you did. Thanks for the idea. I may crop in to where the window is centered vertically but on the left-thrid of the image horizontally. ...If that makes any sense...

Captain Morgan:

In a hurry - understandable, but observation is key if you shoot these clean abstracts since it's the little details that make them wonderful.

Now she's the bright one with the correct priorities!

Tried a crap crop. You could call it "Kingpin"

I may try blowing up that bowling pin part and trying it with that. that could work. (I feel like a dork - I didn't even notice that bowling pin...)

Thanks for the advice, Michael. My girlfriend was walking away to look at some shops, so I was kinda rushed with this shot (not that it would have turned out any better, I didn't really know what exactly to do with this shot in terms of organizing it, thoough to split it in thirds would have work better had I had a lens that would have allowed me to zoom out any further.).

Once you get started, you won't be able to stop.

The trick to these is naming them right - maybe this should have been named for that bowling pin in the window. How strange.

I think you have the basics down - look for bold colors, a composition that Mondrian would've liked, and some really nice textures and at least one crazy detail to energize the frame.

Bold Color? Yup. You may have to pop the saturation at times in PS.

Mondrian comp? Close, but a little too static on the grid. the four windows are precisely even vertically and the middle ones are right down the center. Having a nice blank to the right is good use of negative space, but still laying elements on the half is sure to make for a more static comp.

Texture? Yup. Bricks, wonderful bricks.

Odd element? Kind of... Maybe a closer shot revealing that weird bowling pin?

(And thanks should really go to Jeanette Hagglund and Todd Miller, who I'm really copying)

Also look at Joel Aaron (freakslikejoel web site) who has a stunning personal style in a newer, cleaner look.
