About Glass fruit is a very common item in my kitchen. This would have been a good thing to remember after an a weekend day shooting everything else but the blue pear, and the green apple that seemed to hide from me in front of my face.

Tonight after work, the kitchen became my studio, and the blue pear, made of solid glass, was the subject.

Going back to lighting with very little ambient light, and a lengthy exposure in order to use my mag-light as a painted key light.

Most time was taken with the reflections, and finding objects that would add interest into the clear edge of the glass. The inked blue core of the pear was almost clear enough to light up blown bubbles from the other side, giving a shadow effect, and bizarre depth.

ISO100, and trying out a borrowed 50mm prime lens.

Joel -

No fly out necessary. The show was fun. A good mellow crowd. Breaking even and maybe ahead on selling prints, way behind on the framed artwork but now I think I can decorate a house!

I have to go back out and try to shoot a pano stitch of the gallery.

Neat try, nice colors!! I can seeeeeeee you in the reflection on top, but can't make out if you're holding your maglight or camera... or I'm just imagining things... ;-D As I said, neat shot, but it looks a bit flat to me... MHO... with those bubbles you ideally would hope to get a 3D effect and I don't know if it's the lighting or the borrowed lens but a bit more clarity wouldn't be a bad thing either... try, try again...

Joel:

Uh oh, he's shooting for the glass project. I'm scared.

I like the lighting, but this one seems lit a little to plain and the bubbles are not as crisp as I'd expect. I've now come to expect more from you, so I'm thinking there is something surreal and creative hiding back there in your mind that will pop out in the next few weeks.

Look a bit deeper, or stare a bit longer, or if that fails just ask your wife to help. Works for me.

Wow, you can't tell it's painted light, Joel. This is nicely done. The reflection along the top is a strong contrast to the rest, and a nice balance.

Sadly, I'm in a target-rich environment (Boston) and stuck with my 50mm 1.8 as my W I D E S T lens. That'll be cured upon my return home, when I'm FINALLY gonna snag my Canon 10-22 zoom!!

A nice glass image, Joel! Your kitchen sounds like mine, often, is....and our bedroom....and, lately, for my glass photos, on top of the photocopier in our office! :))) Gosh, us photographers are inventive and resourceful! :)))

Well done, mate!

Cheers
