About ...

Expecting your critique I need also add more info re this image.
So , it was taken with DC-Nikkor lens that is dedicated for portraits and in fact is great. It is bright and gives softness. Just great!
Focusing is another story...
Since I do not have a remote control using selftimer forces me to focus on something (here on a pillow).
This is a selfportrait so after focusing and lauching selftimer I had to move to the point the lens can see me. Not to mention finding a good composition, angle etc.
Not that easy.

The image was desaturated and slightly filtered in NeatImage (a freeware available at www.neatimage.com).
Little crop only on the left side.

Wow, I would love an image of me like this, so peaceful when you really weren't!(too much to think about etc) Amazing to capture such a self portrait... You have given me inspiration to keep trying! Beautiful job. And by your other images you really seem to have 'a style'. This i know is hard to do, so well done and I'll be watching and learning from you, Monica X

my latest favourite, not me though. I am working on it!

I like the composition and toning.
One thing I'd recommend is to limit the softening of Neat Image to the skin, leaving the hair alone. If you can't create a mask before loading into Neat Image, then you can have a sharpened version under your softened version, and then erase the softened hair revealing the sharp hair in the layer below.

Nicely done!!

Thank you Francisco.
I also like this image for softness and for how my hair look like here. Especially that my haircut is my job :)
Yes, really.
Last week I decided to have some strands of hair shorter so took scissors and cut my hair :)

Michael, thank you for indepth comment.
Yes, you are right regarding the eye. It would be better my eye to be in a strong point... but... taking selfportraits with good composition is so difficult.

And... we wear wedding bands on right hands in Poland so sorry no intentional symbolism here ;o)

And... make-up. it was very strong but thanks to desaturation looks so delicate.

Thank you again for stopping by :)

Smiles

Dear Monika, this is one of your best selves. The results are perfect; love the expression and the hair streaming down the face. Very nice to see the perfectly manicured hand emerging from the bottom right corner.

Your use of the portrait lens is exemplary as the final image. The softness of the lens, the soft focus, DOF are just technical, the softness of the pillow, flawless skin and silky hair are your artistry and beauty.

Amazing creation!

All the best.

Francisco

Soft DOF here is great - very difficult to perform the setup when all alone.

Just a few things:
Great tone, has a desaturated look, soft focus, very "dreamy".

Good composition, hope that others noticed that your eye is dead center but the arrangement is wonderful, the play of hair, etc.

No ring on the hand which is in clear focus - intentional symbolism?

Great nails.

Always wondered how ladies managed to wear their makeup to bed and keep it from getting smudged.

The pillow is a nice even shade and makes for a wonderful negative space to offset your hair.

Theres something very calm about the picture. Nicely taken shot. Gives the sense that the lady is having a good deep sleep.

Andrzej,
good point!
Yes, the description is in contrary to the peaceful mood of my photo.
Yes, it was posed.

But isn't it that people pose all the time? ( unless asleep ;)
Isn't it that what we see is a result of what the others show to us and at the same time what we want to see?

That's life.

Thank you for your kind words. Photography and art becomes very important in my life.

Monika, adoring the picture very much one could imagine your dreams, the soft toned and blurry scenes of beautiful places and lovely people - something relaxing and comforting, optimistic and sweet.

And I would do the same if I don't read your "about" where you are saying that all this is faked, posed and artificially neatized - a big distraction and...

.... and then I realized that you are an artist and all my initial impression makes good sense again. Yes you are talented artist with the big ease to express your feelings - just the way artist should do. Lovely.

Cheers, NJ

Gorgeous portrait... Not much to critique IMO, other than to compliment you on a beautiful image of a very beautiful model :-)
About makes it a little more interesting, how many times did you have you to run into position to get such a perfectly peaceful pose?
Well done!
