About Just so you don't think I'm insane --
We moved into a house and I chose the basement for my bedroom. It was the largest room and it was cool to live in "the basement"..

I used to wake up in the middle of the night feeling very uneasy.. If I was going to the bathroom (2nd floor), I always felt nervous walking up the stairs. Through those stairs, (stairs were open) I could see our cold cellar.. It always gave me a shiver.

About 2 years into living there, I found out a lady had died in that very cellar.

Naturally I was even more freaked out.. I started having nightmares, and eventually ended up living on the 2nd floor (I guess I'm just a fraidy cat).

This image was created as a coping mechanism for those nightmares.. I still don't like walking up stairs at night when there is no backing to them.. I always feel like something's going to grab my leg or run up behind me..

A model from New York was more than happy to assist me in the image. I did some slight manipulation of the face and fingers, otherwise it's as shot.

Hi Kevin, can understand why you picked the other one, the one you picked removed the "safe distance" that your 2nd one seems to give the viewer. The hand is creepy though. Thanks for posting a 2nd version.

Kazounds! Photo-therapy for fears? Your photo must be much worse than any nightmare could be; downright scary. me thinks you having fun with us. :)

Alright Kevin . . . though there's no visible need for the stairs (the title mentions all you need to know with this image) I could see why you wanted them in the lower foreground. Before reading the about section I thought (one) I would move and (two) Eeeeewww!!!
This is a nightmare and I'm not sure of the therapeutic value, but it does make for a horrifying image. Because of the composition, I think that there IS some suggestion of ascent from below but, again, I wonder if it's needed considering the POV and the title. I think the composition might be a bit stronger with a tighter crop removing some of the lower portion and forcing concentration of the viewer onto the horrifying image of my ex-wife . . . errr . . . I mean of your model! LoL! Of course, this is personal opinion and I only throw it out there for you to consider.
Otherwise I think it's very well done!

You are correct.. I shot different angles for this shot and this shot on the stairs was my fav.

Here's a shot of her behind the stairs.. I felt the focusing on her face (in the original image) and not her hand was more empowering to the image..

the intensity is awesome. I really think it has the nightmare feel you wanted. I just don't get a sense of her coming up from or behind the stairs at least not at first glance. Either way this could give me nightmares. :-)
