About As a suggestion, I've changed to the simple white frame. I never learn.

For the Critiquer's Corner: This is a question of framing. I posted a shot a little earlier, using a colored frame that I picked from some of the foreground rocks. I thought the effect was good, bringing out the color of the rocks. That photo is here: http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1175371

After someone suggested it would look better with white, I posted this. Any particular comments on what you liek better?

I know, there are those who say not to frame. But I persoanlly prefer to frame my photos.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Absolutely great, not only the window here but also the wall...ends in diagonal way, that wall adds a lot to your composition Dave.

Impressive image - in fact your entire portfolio is a pleasure to visit - you have a true photographer's eye - I prefer the white frame.

BTW, thanks for answering my question on the forum, there are so many pages and pages of strings, did not see the previous discussions.

Thanks, Nacho, appreciate the comment. I should have entered this into a recent web contest but chose not to. Instead, I entered what I thought was a better one... it did terrible.

Thanks Justin. No, I did not use a polarizer. I think the difference is that the foreground wall is constructed of a totally different type of rock, much lighter than the background wall.

Best wishes,
Dave

did you use a polarizing filter on this? the light is all over the place, seems like, creating uneven and unexpected contrasts in the fore ground rock.

good composition, though.

Thanks, Lori! Sure glad to hear from you. I tried that other place but just do not like the learning curve. Seems they make things so difficult as to navigations, etc. Hard to teach a dog new tricks, ya know.

Wish you were here!

Best wishes,
Dave

Hi Dave,

This is really nice......as you know I LIKE FRAMES! And I think this one in the white is great. Keeps it simple which I think this composition likes!!
I'm thinking that there is a 'tad' bit too much saturation, but that's just me.

I really like this view, great!!
Lori :)

ps how are ya?

Indeed "shan't" is a word used in Australia... by me anyway. :) It is an English word and I did not learn to speak Australian, but English :)I can "bung on" the Australian, but basically I speak "English".

I too am not 100% in eyesgight, hence many typos above all else which I notice oft' too late!

I don't know whether the whole country is in mourning over Steve Irwin. I have friends who worked for him, (a lady who used to live a few doors from me moved to QLD as a photographer for him...); and I am also very sad for the family and friends he has left behind. But he was an adventurer. I am not surprised, and doubt he would have been, to have passed from this world in the manner he did. Leaving a young family behind must be heartbreaking for them. I rarely mourn the dead. I mourn those left behind...

And, Dave... do what you wish with your frames. Whatever it is you do, it is working!

Cheers, friend!
Aniko :)

A strong image Dave with great texture, colour and compsosition. It would look good in almost any frame but best in white , I think. Great work again!

Well, my dear Aniko. I shan't (is that a word in Australia?) say that I specifically fetched this photo and posted it just to lure you back into my web? It worked.

As for me, I am just an old lonely, colorblind and blind as a bat man living with my pup in the middle of the twilight zone. I'm sticking with white from now on. (I've said that before and then manage to go to the dark side still). LOL

Oh, and is your country in mourning over Steve Irwin? Crikey, what a way to go.

As for suggestions on the frwame colour... your choice... you are the artsit and you know which tones will best "bring out" those aspects in your work that you wish to draw the eye closer to.

I have a friend who does the framing of my prints when i am exhibiting/selling. She is very good. Often we "argue" over which colour or even subtle difference in shade of same colour would be best. How many times, I have had more than one of the same print in a frame of her colour choice and of mine, and then we sit back and laugh, realizing they both "work". :)
