Beautifully composed - I like the way the fence posts lead you into the photo. I like the dappled sunlight highlighting the detail on the tree trunk and those lovely autumnal colours - very nice!

This is an interesting perspective study. As Marcus said, the DOF drop off with each successive post or tree works well. The perspective pulls you through the image.
And as an aside, it is nice to see such fall folliage. We don't get that in Texas. One day the leaves are green, the next they are brown, the next day they are all over your lawn. Go figure!
And another aside: great doggies in your bio pic!

Thankyou all for your kind comments. That weekend I tried all combinations of focus and DOF, and this one was a best effort. For some reason, narrow DOF with focus on the highlighted and cross-lit tree reproduced that quiet, peaceful feeling most effectively. Focus on the shaded fence in the midground would not have worked as well.
