About Hamlins Hill sits nestled between an industrial area and the Southern Motorway, a few minutes up the road from me. I drive past it all the time and often looked over to see the cows grazing, wondering how the heck I could get up there to take some shots. So last weekend, my husband and I went on a little discovery tour. We managed to find an obscure (locked) gate tucked behind a warehouse parking lot... and made our way in and up the hill.

I took a few shots, cows included, but this one is my pick of the bunch. I think it sums up a lazy afternoon daydream quite nicely.

Added sepia photo filter in PS, diffused glow and vignette.

Alan, terribly sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. Your email was buried under a tonne of stuff in my inbox and I just saw it now. I really need to be more organised! :) Anyway, to answer your question, I have the IST-DS and was using the kit lens (18-55mm) for this shot. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for your comment and for the comparison, I'm flattered. Cheers!

hehehehe... you crack me up Doyle. Thanks for swinging by. I get so many wonderful comments, from just a few words of encouragement to an entire thesis at times, they're ALL helpful to me and I count myself very fortunate to get them.

This time though, I think the random "Featured Critique" picker thingy is out to viciously humiliate me by selecting the one critique that clearly paints the picture of my COWardess. Folk from all around the world, pointing and laughing at me... oh the humanity! ;D

Wow Rina! Beautiful with the toned down colors and congrats for a wonderful image. I see Stingray landed you both on the front page! While Ray's critique is always nice . . . I must say Andre Denis echoed my thoughts on this quite excellently. So . . . uhhhhhhh . . . well . . . read his . . . and then mine is "Ditto", ok? That way I don't have to copy paste his words . . . all right? You know me . . . I just HATE to copy paste words of others!!! LoL!!!
:)

Warmest Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique I'm out to play again my gorgeous girl.

This is a wonderful simplistic nature study sweetie and the pof and dof are superb. I love the toning to this and enjoyed reading the about which set the scene nicely. I have this vision of you crawling around the grasses in an attempt to avoid the attention of the cows. Saved a small boy....hmmmn....you ran, didn't you? My very best wishes to you as always sweetie a great big hug and an even bigger kiss......Catch....X Ray;)

Ummm... but the boss cow was gonna EAT ME, I mean, eat the small boy... yes, I was just trying to save the boy from mad cow! You know, maternal instinct and all that. Wasn't afraid at all, no.

Laurie McIntosh   {K:958} 10/5/2006
Rina, where are the cow shots? Or are they all a bit movement blurred due to you running away from the naughty cows so fast?

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66407} 10/4/2006
Hi Rina,
I was commenting on an image of someone elses... Andrzej Pradjinski, I believe. He had also gone to sepia or desaturation on one of his images of wild plant life.
I said something similar to what you mentioned about the colours "swallowing the subjects"

So many times we see something that looks like a great image in our mind's eye and when we see the result, there is way too much overwhelming detail in the image to focus the attention on the intended subject. We quite often discard those images because of our dissapointment. However, sometimes giving the image a sepia or desat treatment will tend to bring the feeling back to us. I think this is what may have happened to you when you did this image. I really like converting to B&W and adding a sepia tone. If someone told me I had to do all my images that way
I wouldn't mind one bit :)
Andre

Caterina  Berimballi Caterina  Berimballi   {K:27299} 10/3/2006
Cheers Andre :) Yes, the original colours seemed to swallow the subjects up a fair bit, so I tried desat at first, but sepia won out in the end. Glad you enjoyed the story too!

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66407} 10/3/2006
Very nice Rina!
I like the post processing on this one. The subtle sepia tone you picked is the way to go on this shot.
It's always more effective when we have a little story in the about, to set the mood. No matter what they say about a picture being worth a thousand words. :)
Andre
