Wonderful composition with a great outline of the elk against that stormy sky ~ I love all the wildlife shots in your gallery!

Doyle, this is #9 from Mammoth Springs, WY. If the big boys get particularly......."ornery" and "unruly" they're given an ear tag with a number! This one was asking for you, yes THIS one IS in Yellowstone!

Hey John . . . this is something else. I'd personally prefer a lower bottom crop that didn't cut the Elk's feet . . . but I'm sure you would too. But STILL . . . Wow! I can't imagine a more perfect BG for this and you have enough detail in the quasi-silhouetted profile to really snap some "cool" into this image. Canada, not Yellowstone? Good thing for him you were shooting with a camera! (He might wanna stay in the National Park where I'm assuming he's protected). Uhhhhh . . . that being said . . . I've seen these guys in Wyoming . . . make sure you have a good lead and an exit plan if these guys get feisty . . . and they DO get feisty on ocassion! :)

Season's Best Wishes,
Doyle I <~~~~~

I must admit Rich, this was not my preferred piece of the elk series. There was something about the "special" light that prompted it's posting. I have three dozen others which are compositionally better, but that light and the memory of being there at this particular moment made my decision. Thanks for your support. -john
(you STILL have the best hummingbird shots on the planet Rich!)

Thanks for taking the time to comment Frank. A very close crop indeed my friend. I liked the light in this shot, but I came very close to not posting because of the positioning. -john

Gotta watch those ones with fancy horns, they'll muscle in, steal the chicks and drink all the beer.

Why do people rate this so low. Do they think this shot is easy ? I don't! You got my top.-Rich

Hey John,
If you mean camera or gun, it's camrea. I've never shot a gun in my life and even if I had I don't think I could ever look a critter in the eye and kill it. I have nothing aganist people who do hunt with a gun but I just can't do it!!!

Thanks Ron, these beasts are indeed very impressive (and hormone crazy this time of year!) also the most dangerous to unwary tourists. -john
