Jim, thanks for the comment. As I recall, I shot this on "automatic" which allowed the camera to pick both aperture and shutter; however, I agree. The next time I'd like to take a monopod (which is allowed) and put the camera on manual to get better DOF. I believe the camera was really focusing on the face/head of the butterfly.

Beautiful colors. I dont know if the loss of sharpness is a result of missing on the focus or of scanning. I would try a smaller appature to gain DOF and use a monopod if the Botanical garden allows them.
