About Large voracious crickets(35-40mm). Mainly herbivorous but they often turn cannibalistic and eat the remains of their road-killed kin. They occur (often in great numbers)in the semi-arid South African karroo shrubland where they are commonly known as "karroo prawn".

I think that I will dream of it tonight! But nature is beautiful also when it appears ugly.
The D200 seems a very good camera Joggie, splendid colours.
Take care.

So correct Terry. These crickets are very agile and they dont like the flash. Had quite a time in the half dark to corner it into this pose. Furthermore its face and carapax is hard and shiny giving lots of trouble with reflections - luckily had someone to help me with the flashlight. Take care and thanks for your comment - appreciated!

Stunning amount of detail, I'm assuming that this was a technically difficult picture to take, therefore it makes it even more astonishing to get this result
