About Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone at Usefilm!
This one comes to you from my eighth Christmas in 1957. Looking like I stepped right out of a Norman Rockwell print... I guess we didn't worry about seeing images instantly in those days, judging by the date on the photo.
The print is from the same camera that I first learned photography with. A Yashica Mat 124. My dad would have taken this shot.
Don't throw away any of your old snapshots!!! This one was scanned with an Epson Perfection 1250 scanner and adjusted in Photoshop for a fresh new/old look.

Thanks Thilo,
I find the older I get, the more I appreciate the common snapshot. Not just the ones from my own family. There is a wonderful, unpretentious, universal innocence that is usually captured by snapshots. They almost all tell some kind of story. (imagined or real)
I'm pretty sure we see eye to eye on this because I remember some of your Holga shots that sort of simulate the innocent snapshot feel.
There is still nothing like the real thing though.

I think I might have mentioned in the about of this shot. The camera that my dad used to take this snap of me was the same camera that I first learned on. It was a Yashicamat 124 TLR. I remember feeling kind of awkward in the classes at first becase everyone else had fancy new 35mm SLRs. Then I found out that mine was a Japanese copy of a Rolleiflex and I didn't feel so bad. :)
See you later.
Andre

Thanks for the visit and the comment Dave!
Exactly right with your comment.... I guess we will just have to keep constantly backing up our files over the next few years in whatever new improved formats they keep coming up with.
I sure wish I had a bit more foresight to make copies of all those old BetaMax tapes we took of our kids when they were babies :(

Hi Kes,
This one reminded me of that Darren McGavin movie "Christmas Story". You know, the one with the Red Ryder BB gun. "you'll shoot your eye out with that"
Amazing isn't it? the roll of film has 12 shots in it and my dad waits till March to get it developed. Couldn't think of anything else to use up the film on I guess :)

Great advice, Andre. I just hope that in another generation we will still be able to retrieve old images. Just like we find these kind of images in an old shoe box at the back of the closet. Warm regards to you, also.

This is great, Andre! It brings back the memories...of the old photo album! Nice contrasts, and of course it is your expression that makes the shot. Christmas in March too, what kid wouldn't be happy?
:)

Happy Holidays to you and yours, Andre!

Thanks Gayle,
I get a kick out of re-doing some of these old shots. As I said to Dave, everyone here at Usefilm probably has a treasure chest of old family images stored in their attics and basements, just waiting for re-work. The memories start flowing like crazy during the re-working.

ps The curtains are actually the world's ugliest wallpaper. They were a green colour not found in nature :)

Thanks Dave,
You have a great Christmas and New Years too!
Thanks for all of your support over the last year!

ps
These old shots from all of our family albums are priceless. They are just sitting there stored away in attics and basements waiting to be restored digitally.
