About As I am driving home this evening along the windy dirt roads of Alberta, the sky became very animated and interesting. I just had to find a equally interesting foreground. The contrast in the warm tones of the grass next to the cool tones of the snow was something that struck my eye.

You did well to extract such drama from a dreary winter day, Tim! I do remember that the Alberta sky usually delivered - but I was not taking pictures then.

i have never had a problem shooting into the sun with any of the Nikon digitals i have had. On this day of shooting, most of my shots were straight into the sun. I was using a ND 2 stop filter here though.

Hey Tim, I'm still afraid to try a shot with the sun...bad luck with the little Sony Cybershot...but apparently it is ok on a digital camera with a shutter. ? I hope. Will wait for feedback though before I try, lol.

Man, you should get some cash from Canada's tourism agency. I want to move there. Except I see they have snow too.

A very rare location, both your captures are stunning and eye catch. very good exposure to show the mood in this area. maybe can be better in converting to the BW tones. the rays of sun and the fler just distract me. thanks for share...

The results are fantastic. I didn't even know about the new D80 until I saw it on this shot like twenty minutes ago. I'll have to check it out. I started out on a D100 (from work), so I have a healthy appreciation for Nikons.

I may have to check out that filter...

Hi Morgan,

On this shot i am using a ND 2 stop filter made by LEE Filters. Other then that i am bracketing 1 stop and hope for the best. I have to hand it to Nikon the new D80 has been working just great for me. And the 12-24mm Nikkor lens is super as well.

Love the feel of you photos, Tim. Are you using HDR or what? I'd love to know how you achieve your style. Great composition and tones, as always.

Gorgeous work! The sky certainly is interesting especially the wheel of cloud in the right corner. Beautiful lighting on the snow, I can feel its crispness. CC
