About This is another "slide sandwich".
The yellow comes from two different sources. I will explain how this abstract image was made.
The woman was originally photographed on B&W print film which I printed using the "splatter method". Using a macro lens to crop into only her eyes and part of her hair, I reshot the resulting print under tungsten light onto slide film. (Tungten light being one source of yellow.)
I sandwiched this "eyes" slide with another slightly overexposed slide of yellow jonquils. Hence the overall yellow tones. (Overexposure of jonqils deliberate so as to be more transparent and for the eyes and other textures of the woman to be predominant... I have used this jonquil slide many times with other images...I have many images I shot for the sole purpose of using for "sandwiches".)
I played a little in PS with this sandwich and this is the result.
Both the images sandwiched together here are from some time ago, but I feel that by having reworked them, I have created a whole new picture.
I am sure not many people will like it! LOL!

My Dear Friend YT!
You are very kind to me and your comments are warmly appreciated!

Thank you also for reminding me, if I understand you correctly, to take better care of myself. Lately I have had a few injuries and also many computer problems. I do become "down-hearted" from time to time. But I assure you I am not depressed as I am (always have been) a true survivor! :)
And I am SO pleased to say to you and to all of my dear friends here at UF that I went to the doctor today and my hand is almost 100% healed! I CAN play guitar! (Better each day... ) :) :) :) I CAN do many other things that I indeed believed I might have to renounce. My doctor was amazed that even without a specialist hand physiotherapist, which was meant to be the next "step" in my recovery process, that I somehow managed to "heal myself". And I wish to thank so many loving people who held me in their kind thoughts, sending them my way...
I am certain they have been received.
Bless each and every kind heart. Thank you all for caring.

Loving WishesOne and All,
Aniko :) :) :)

A stunning work of art, Aniko!!! You have so many ideas, you're so creative and so talented and we are so happy that you share your work with us. I read the whole process....but.....hm! beyond my capabilities!Only that I'd like to kindly ask you to pay more attention when your person is involved! Having to renounce doing so many things at which you must be very good - as good as you are with your art - is an invitation to frustration and even depression. Not the thing I'd like for you! My very best wishes to you,
YT

Greetings Dear Monica and thank you so much for such high praise!

I use old cameras and real film for the LOVE of it. That's all there is to it. Sometimes I experiment with digital cameras, sometimes I PS my work, but overall I like old fashioned methods to bring about NEW images :)(And often work that people think I have PS inany way is not the case. I shoot a lot of unusual images in camera with no processing other than develop and print... lol...

Many thanks again for your kind comments and Warm Wishes to you!
Aniko :)

I love it too, I feel guilty though & little amatuerish as I only have one 35mm camera (unused lately) & one digital....I am entering awards at the moment to try a win an eos 5D, and soon to purchase a 50mm f1.4 USM. I will continue to watch your work and be inspired. Also, do you do so much with film for the love or the ease as v's PS? Take care & thanks, Monica.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

I am sorry to hear about your injuries! If I could cross my fingers (lol) I would... regarding your February appointment. Here's wishing you health and happiness, my friend, and I do hope you don't have to go through surgery!

Thank you Dear Mary!

I am pleased to report that my finger is healing much faster than I would have imagined! :) And my thumb is not too bad now either. I am so relieved! But the splint will stay on my finger for the entire 4 weeks to make certain it heals completely. I now really have faith that is will :) And I will be very carerful not to overwork the hand in the meantime.

The technicalities of this image are probably not as important as all that... lol...

I am very happy you appreciate it, and yes, this lady has very expressive eyes. She is a rather well known artist. I think it shows in her eyes that she is an artist! :)

Warmest Wishes to you,
Aniko :)

Ani... :) You truly are an *artiste*... Again beautiful work and real depth thru' the sandwiching process... The sunshine of my mind... :)

Sounds like we are all a *bit* injured... Do hope the recovery of your hand progresses well to completion Sweet Lady... Sounds very nasty and uncomfortable... and completely understand the *can't do* re painting etc... For me, coming to Melbourne in early Feb to find out whether I need neck,or hand surgery... Have been having scans etc over past 6 months... Makes life a tad difficult when our bodies don't function as they should... ~~GRIN~~ *Menapausal Mange* I call it LOL... We still tackle the day head on and always a way, through lateral thinking, around the hiccups in life... :)

Take care... :)

hi Aniko, you have done an amazing amount of work to produce an altogether pleasing image and then you have taken the trouble to explain how this most pleasing result was achieved......this sits in stark contrast to the myriad images banged up on to the site with no information or story......personally I love a picture to have a story, it adds value, shows a bit of commitment to the task at hand......nice work, well done. cheers, david.

Indeed Dear Shirley.

I count my blessings every day. I still have a roof over my head, food to eat, a loving family and good friends... I am indeed VERY blessed!

And yes, it might be a lot to give up, but Life goes on... and it is not definite yet. I will still be able to make photographs :)

Love and Blessings to you my Friend!

You are welcome for the comment.:)

You're very sweet Dear Shirley!

Thank you for your concern. I am a "trooper", as are you. :) If the finger does not recover, I will have to give up certain activities (like playing guitar, knitting, spinning, crochet, making jewellery, possibly driving (though that is unlikely... even though while the splint is on, I cannot drive...), but will still be able to play piano in a fashion... lol...
I am not as badly off as too many people in the world. Therefore I am grateful and feel blessed to be basically "OK".

Thank you for your wonderful comment on this photo creation. :)

Warmest Wishes Sweet Friend,

Oh Aniko, I was cringing reading about your injury. I can sympathize since you know I had serious injury last April. My left elbow and hand will never be quite the same. Hope your hand recovers.

Now to your lovely photo creation...It is the perfect title, and so cheerful for those of us in full Winter.:)

Aniko Heart Aniko Heart   {K:26503} 1/11/2007
Dear Viola!

Thank you very much for your interest in this unusual creation. I was actually originally going to post the softer version here, but as usual my slide scanner settings "default" back to whatever is not a true representation of the slide! (It doesn't seem to mind scanning whites or black and whites which is another reason I posted the Heirloom detail here, to see how it came up once in UF...)
I either need a new scanner, or to have this one "fixed" (both of which I am currently in no financial position to afford...) However, I will do my best... I might even be able to borrow a scanner from a friend and will be happy to send you the original version at a later time. Truly it does not vary much from this one. The actual woman's image was hand printed by me on hard high contrast black and white paper and using
splatter" method which means she does not have the full face "developed" anyway. So she is actually as "hard" and contrast as this anyway. I merely rephotographed the eyes and interesting parts of hair onto slide film so I could "sandwich" it with a slightly overexposed image of jonquils. (I often deliberately overexpose slides when I want a particular "background" or "overlay" for stronger images. I have a whole lot of them especially for this purpose :)
It's a mad house here! LOL!

Your kind comments are always much apreciated!

Hugs to you,
Aniko :)

Thank you very much Joggie!

I still prefer using "old" techniques as a basis to my work. The added PS here is minimal. The orginal slide sandwich is almost identical to the image you see here. The PS has merely given it a bit of a "boost".

Best wishes to you also and may your 2007 be a great one!!!

Warmest Wishes,
Aniko :)

Very nice Aniko - years ago i also played around with sandwiching slides - the addtion of PS sure brings along addtional possibilities. Great job done here! May you have a stunning 2007! Take care.

Thank you Jan :)

Yes... I was being a good (if anxious) parent, supervising a tribe of rampant teenagers who were demanding I find them more sparklers. I knew I had some in a drawer somewhere. My house is as old as my photographic equipment... lol... and I have a very heavy and not so stable drawer that rather seriously "attacked" my hand... :( ouch...

I should have had it in a splint (mainly middle finger is most injured having torn the tendon completely from the bone), but I was thinking the reason my finger was "flopping" was owing to the joint being swollen. Not the case... sigh... So since New Year I have actually been working with it and making it worse! I too really hope it will come good. The doctor said it was a slim chance :(
However the rest of the hand should be fine.

Thank you so much for your kind concern and Best Wishes to you,
Aniko :)

Dear Jan!

Thank you so much!

I have no idea how all those new fandagled gadgets and programmes work really... lol... I experiment! :)
I have adobe PS 7 and an ancient version of Coral and also a real darkroom (rarely used these days unless I wantto print something for an exhibition or experiment with new and old techniques).
I use ancient analogue cameras and real film.
I am also a painter, therefore, I enjoy the "mult-steps" and in essence, much of this work is indeed "hand done". I like it that way :)
I feel the reason you see this as an actual painting is because I actually do paint (mostly pastel and watercolour). I was missing that work as currently I have a finger and thumb out of action (for possibly a couple of months since an injury on New Year's Eve...) So I dragged out the old black and white print from some time ago and the slide of the jonquil... saw their "match" and went about the task... easier on my hand than actually painting... could do most of the work quite easily, even though a rather lengthy process.

I'm so pleased you like the resulting image. It makes me very happy indeed! :)

Warmest Wishes,
Aniko :)

Aniko - put me down for one of the viewers who likes it! This is a fascinating process that you describe and I think the results were well worth the effort. I guess I am restating the obvious but the resultant portrait looks like something done by hand in the mode or form of contemporary art done in oil and color wash. (I know little about these techniques and may be using the wrong terminology here). Regardless, if I were to see this in a gallery my reaction would be: done by hand.
One thing I am curious about: could this same result have been achieved in combination with something like PS and an advanced Paint program? Seems like you had to go through a multi-step process and still apply artistry by hand at the end stage of the process.
Well done & I love it.
--Best to you, Jan
