Augusto Mario Cunha " I believe the solution is what one other photographer suggested. I should have moved back just a little to make and frame the tree more to the right. Thanks to everybody for all comments although I'm not sure if this is where I would respond. I'll have to see how others respond to comments on their photos.

It's a beautiful composition of this landscape. Great DOF... indeed there's a lot of contrast in it but very well captured. I'd probably try contrast mask in PS to get more out of the shadows.

This is a beautiful image, however as you've said it is fairly contrasty and quite busy. Perhaps you could wait until later in the afternoon to use the warmer light and reduce the contrast a little. I find the tree in the center a little distracting, perhaps you could try moving closer to the edge and fill the frame more with the mountains and sky to simplify the composition. If you want to leave the tree in the shot, perhaps you could try moving back a little to include the base of the tree as well.

I would have been quite satisfied if I had taken this... I see the contrast but i don't find it distracting or unattractive...I love the rich blue sky and the clouds ...along with the tree and the surrounding landscape they frame Half Dome beautifully...excellent dof...
