Well for this shot I was perhaps 15 meters away on a little platform that was about 2 meters tall. It took me out of the bears' way, but if they wanted to they could have been in, on, over, or crushed the platform. thankfully, all they cared about was the salmon - it was like crack to them. an amazing experience.

What a great photo. That's what i call capturing the action. How close did you have to get to take this shot?

Thanks - Sometimes it was hard to get to give a good shot, but at about 200 pictures an hour, there were a lot of throw-aways and few perfect moments.

Missy - I spent 2 weeks in Alaska and have many pictures even beyond the bears that are spectular. I would recommend it as the best place I have ever been for photographs for nature. Just plan the trip even if it is years in advance - you will not regret it!
