Hi Humphrey - thanks or the comments! This was taken just outside of Beaufort West and I used a Sunpack ringflash.Regards.
Joggie
(I have left the services of MM&A in PE, taken up a big project in Tete, Mozambique! Will be back on UF as soon as I am settled - talk to you later)

Lovely markings well captured with excellent balance of the black and white detail. To achieve such good depth of field at f/32 you must have a good flash setup. All the rain spiders I have seen in PE are dull pinkish brown by comparison.

Now, this is a stunner!!! Are those blue eyes there??? Well, it is a macro, but it still looks huge, though I read your explanation about being only 25mm in size - a baby with mean eyes!!!!Remarkable details and the posture you've captured makes it look so alive! You've got to get an award for this one! Absolutely!!!
Regards,
YT

Great composition Joggie. You have beautifully filled the space with harmony in the upper side and with a touch of contrasting colour in the botton, creating also a natural base to the image. I like this photo very much Joggie.
Ciao.

You should get an award for bravery, Joggie. I'm afraid I would have run away as soon as he lifted his first leg. Such a good shot. An award winner in my mind. Cheers, Ann.

Thanks Doyle - these species grow up to about 35mm with the legs spread. This particular specimen was not fully grown and about 25mm in size. The big guys here in South Africa is the Baboon spiders which are related to the Tarantulas. I tried here to close in on that cute little face of the critter, so yes the right front feet were amputated. The focal plane though was perfect to show the finely textured, almost satinlike features of the front paws as well as the highly sensitive hairs on it. Kind regards.

Hey Joggie . . . My first thought was just to ditto what Gennaro said. You really do have this down to an art. A shame in this case about that tight right side crop . . . I'm assuming it couldn't be helped while retaining the focal clarity to this extent. These things are a bit large, right? 12 to 15 centimeters . . . but what a pose you got! I can evoke this pose in my tarantula relatively easily . . . and it is a pose that'll get your attention!! Impressive as always my friend!!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
