Thank you so much Nessa... I'm quite pleased with how this turned out as I'm only a learner in Photoshop, I don't know what I'm doing most of the time once it gets past the everyday adjust contrast and crop sort of thing... ~~Grin~~

Sorry Jan of course it has a hotshoe, my mistake!
What a pity they didn't give it the same zoom as the S3 IS which is 12x optical and 4x digital.
If Canon ever made a camera with ALL the best features together in one camera they would have the market to themselves! :)

Thanks, Meg. However to correct the record, the G7 has a fully ETTL-driven hotshoe and it works perfectly with my Canon 550EX. It has a 6X optical and a 4X digital zoom. --Jan

You’re very welcome Jan, anything I can do to help just say.
I agree with you on the backward steps, there is also the fact that the G7 has no hotshoe, while not strictly necessary it’s nice to have the option. Like you I have no need of 10 mega-pixels, I would rather have a more powerful zoom which is why I have bought the Canon Powershot S3 IS, this has the flip out LCD a 12x zoom lens (simply wonderful) and also has image stabilization. I still prefer the G6 but between the two I can cover most situations adequately.

Meg -- Thanks for the information. You confirmed what I suspected. When I am shooting in .JPG format I need to pick a smaller size. Too much is lost when crunching a 10 mega-pixel Large size to 400 K. RAW does not have that problem so I need to re-orient my thinking. As for the G7, I am very pleased with it but there were some steps backward from the G6 to the G7. Stick with the G6. The G7 gives up the tilting LCD, changes the maximum aperture to F/2.8 and no longer has RAW support. I believe the improvements include a stronger macro element, a stabilizer (you may have that already) and ten mega-pixels (which is no advantage in my book). --Thank again, Jan

Hi Jan, In answer to your questions, I never use Raw, I can’t for the life in me think why anyone would want to put all that work into an image when so long as you judge your shots well in the first place the camera does a perfectly good job for you ~ ~ ~ I always use jpg.
I normally use Resolution M1 which I find gives a good print at A4 size, if I was shooting something special I might increase that to L, though it’s not very often I print these days. I always set the compression on fine. I then process my images in Photoshop CS2, I save for web and then I use the highest it will allow while at the same time keeping the file size to below 400.
I hope that helps Jan, let me know if I can tell you more. Will you also let me know how you like the G7, I bought the S3 IS instead last year (no Raw either), as I wanted to keep the flip out LCD panel and the G7 hasn’t got that, I can’t understand Canon removing that feature. Anyway I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy the G6 which I prefer even over my DSLR, I will never part with it.

Meg -- I have a couple of questions: are you shooting in RAW or .JPG on the camera? I just bought a Powershot G7 and unlike the G6 it will not produce RAW format. I have not settled yet on best image resolution to use for the camera capture for .JPG. Too large a capture will lose a lot when reduced to the acceptable size for USEFILM. If you are shooting native .JPG in the camera could you tell me what size you are using for the original capture? --Thanks, Jan
