Mark Twain married Olivia Langdon, an Elmira, NY native, in 1870 and spent summers in Elmira with his wife's family. He wrote many of his most famous books here, including A Tramp Abroad, Life on the Mississippi, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Prince and the Pauper, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. He is buried here in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Langdon family plot beside his wife and children.
