great moment you captured here. The cat is 100% focussed on one thing: the hunt.

oh yeah, pretty natural candid of your kitty...great dof, nice FG color interest and good contrast of color...kitty stands out well against the darker BG

Rina . . . ( yawn ) . . . (blink, blink) . . .
Why is it I picture a fluffy Pink terrycloth robe, fuzzy pink slippers, curlers in the hair, a cigarette dangling loosely from the corner of your mouth at a jaunty angle . . . and the unmistakeable shuffle of sleepy feet too tired to be completely lifted from the tiled kitchen floor? Could it be the AWESOME enthusiasm?? Could it?? ( yawn ) - Nahhhhhhh. LoL!

Thanks John!

Fat Freddy? Uhhhh . . . nope. No clue what you're talking about so set down the gin bottle and slowly back away from the shot glass!

You can compare to the D-50 . . . and you're right. The D-50 literally became an extension of my arm and I could use it by counting clicks in complete darkness . . . I knew it intuitively and could rapidly set it for almost any situation . . . controlling the aperture and shutter speed better than I could control my own children (Ok, no stretch there) . . .

Besides . . . if it was only the lens that counted I would just use a Canon. :P (Couldn't resist). Glass is King, but the operator is more important than even the glass . . . and in time I will have a new extension to my hand!! Until then, the D-50 images I captured will likely be better quality and cetainly I can react quicker with that camera . . . Until later.

Our eyes don't see that differently. I agree with the call about the center of focus being left. Should have nailed it between the eyes to pull the sharpness from both eyes . . . as it stands the DOF affects the distant eye too much for my taste . . .

Thanks John . . . always a pleasure!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

*walks over to sink, tips coffee out, throws remaining jar of coffee beans in the bin*

Great composition Doyle. Super colour and exposure too. Pity that blasted stalk of grass is in the way, otherwise as far as cutesy kitty pics go, this is cool. Congrats on your new toy!

*wanders back to the kitchen for a cup of chamomile tea*

Congratulations to your new toy, which you will fast learn to handle properly;) Too bad the cat couldn't get the bird, so she has to stick to mice, what a shame;)
Cheers, Markus

Oh boy, he's got a new toy!

And I can't resist pictures of cats, especially marmalade ones! (Remember Fat Freddy's cat? Now HE had style...)

So, (and you're going to hate me for this...) I have to compare this to the beautiful colourful butterfly you've just uploaded taken with the... D50! OK, I know, it's the lens that counts, but I had to say it anyway!

He's a good looking chap and you've caught him in a very "catty" moment. I would suggest, though, that perhaps the centre of focus is a little over to the left (although I'm beginning to think our eyes see these things differently!)

Enjoy the new machine!

AJ

Thanks Jan! There's a learning curve involved before my work can hang in the loo . . . louvre . . . from this camera. But it is VERY promising. It has slightly more milliamps than the Nikon D-50 battery . . . but looks like it'll need it. Not sure I'll get the same feel as I shoot seemingly constantly. Still . . . any change is good if it's longer . . . errrrr . . . lasting . . . . you know . . . I'm talking about the battery, right? LoL!

Doyle I <~~~~~

HEHEHEhehehee . . . I expected 'pudding' cat! Oh, I agree too - bird watching is actually a secret male requirement! Without it, you have to give back your guy card!! LoL! :)

Doyle -- I am very partial to cat & dog photos and this one is quite nice. This is the typical "I am not ready to pounce but I am keeping an eye out for you" look that I love so much. This fellow has beautiful color and I want to reach out and feel the tufts in his ears. What torture for him to be around so many birds and not being able to follow his nature.
I looked at a D200 two weekends ago while visiting some friends and was really impressed by the feel of the camera and the features packed in that little puppy. My friend had recently purchased it and is still waiting for the battery to need a recharge. At first he thought the charge gauge was wrong but it still just keeps clinging away and the gauge barely moves. Must have a heck of a battery.
Enjoy your new toy!!!!
--Best to you, Jan

Glad to hear he can't get the birds, Doyle! I could see from the full size shot he wasn't in the same focal plane as the flowers, but from the thumbnail you can't tell.
Congrats on the new camera, though!
Dave.
