Very good in many respects (subject, tone, light), though I don't like the tight crop - looks like the composition has been "squeezed" unnecessarily.

in regards to the title, when I saw the log lying there, I looked around to see where it might have been originally. I saw in the distance the tree, I'd thought of the title before I took the shot :-)
Hence, he looks at the tree and think, "what I once was..."
:-)
