These are called 'windcatchers' Ahmed......
People & bussiness's put them in their yards because they are colorful and it is more windy at the beach than not windy so it can tell you 'how much windy ' with-out going outside into it if you aren't prepared ..
I do hope this makes some sense... They don't fly they are on poles and just twirl in the wind.... It is more house & garden fashion :))
Thank YOU Ahmed, and Kind Regards to You ,
Michele~

Beautiful shots! Are these like kites? If it is these would be difficult to control, but must be a great sight when in the air. The colors are very nice!

Ooooh! Wonderful and so colourful Dear Michele!

I feel that it looks great as it is, but for motion, you need slow shutter speeds. Perhaps you could attempt bracketing them, and I know nothing about digital cameras... however, the principle must be the same as with film cameras!
For example, if I want motion, but not sure of just how much, I alter my shutter speeds in increments, reshooting say about 5 frames, and use whatever apeture I want as my cameras are fully manual.

Anyway, I think this is a most colourful and exciting shot even with the hint of blur! At first look, I thoght you might have used a PP filter of some sort. :)
I also like the straight on view.

Great stuff my friend!
Aniko :)

Thank YOU Meg, for both Your opinion on the straight-on image, or the angle, and for your valuable information !!
I really appreciate it sooo much !! It's amazing how many free downloads there are but do I check for them - NOPE .. not un-less someone tells me I just seem to stick with what I've got ...go figure (?) I am sure they are both better than the no control Piccasa!

I know it will help a lot !! You are just full of information!! Thank You Again :))

Hugs,
Michele~

Personally I prefer this to the full on shot as it has a little more depth. I’m glad to see that you got the help from Jan with regards to your settings, that’s something that’s a bit hit and miss with me though most of the time I just get lucky! ;)

As for the grain and sharpening issue, you could try either Neat Image or Community Noisware, they are both free to download and have fully adjustable settings for both reducing the noise and for sharpening, possibly they are both better to use than the built in software in Picasa.

Hope that helps,
Hugs…Meg.

Thank YOU Joe for the kind and helpful comments... I do beleive the noise is from too much sharpening--- I think I sharpened that motion blur right out of the image... I noticed this too-- I have piccasa for an editing program and it is VERY harsh on sharpening. I would bet anything that is what did it :(

Hi Michele,
I like this one because of the composition with the bright bold colours, and the concentric black circles. You've got a lot good advice from Jan and Joggy. Not too much I can add on showing motion. I do notice some graininess or noise in the image. this could be do to using a high ISO setting or more likely high compression when saving as a jpg. With the light available for this shot, your shutter speed, f stop and your equipment this should not happen. What ISO did you use? How much compression did you use. This site accepts a large enough file where compression artifacts should not be visible. Hope this of use and you are having a great weekend.

Joe

Thank YOU Onie... I am glad you got some info out of this too :))
You also got wind ?
Hmmm--- Lincoln City boasts of being the Kite Flying Capital of the World plus we are right smack dab on the coast soooo sometimes it even gets tooo windy for the kites if you can belieive this..It's true -- It is soooo fun when the events start up tho cause the sky is filled with kites, and the air with music :))) I love it then only ..other-wise I am not a wind lover so much ....

Usually you can safely hand hold the camera without "shake" at 1/60th and higher. I don't think a tripod would have been needed. (Unless you drink too much coffee or have a natural shake in your hands).

Joggie van Staden Joggie van Staden   {K:41700} 4/14/2007
Lovely colour Michele! I agree with Jan on the shutter speed. To enhance the felling of movement even further I would have zoomed while taking the shot (if the light conditions allows a slow enough speed), alternately one can apply the effect in PS. Regards.

Oh Thank YOU for your help Jan-- I surely would've needed my tripod for a slow shutter speed-- but live and learn !!

I can always go back , but just not today since it's raining here too:((
Not sure if I should pull this one or just keep it as a learning tool --- ha! I do that a lot ...
Thanks again, and I am not making excuses but wanted to tell you I am left handed and dyslexic soo whatever I learn takes longer- and I seem to do it backwards first a LOT ----- but I do get there :)))

Best wishes,
Michele~

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 4/14/2007
PS: There is some slight motion-sense on some of the blades. Dropping the shutter speed to 1/125th or 1/250th probably would have done the trick. The angle of view also effects how much motion will be apparent as well.

  0

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 4/14/2007
Michele -- I think I like the straight-on shot better because it seems to have less distraction but both have wonderful color. At 1/400th of a second you will not convey the feeling of motion; for that you would need to over-ride the camera a bit and pick a slower shutter speed. The aperture was f/6.3 so a slower shutter speed would have worked to give you a blur and the aperture would have been jacked up to f/16 or f/22. The over-ride would have been accomplished in several ways, one of which is to put it in shutter-priority mode, pick a slow shutter speed and let the camera figure out the aperture.
Nicely done.
--Best to you, Jan
