About No PS work. No digital manipulations. No post-processing work of any kind.

This photograph (film) was shot a couple of weeks ago.

I am doing a few film shots to show that this is not a purely digital phenomenon. Light can paint on film too. The downside is that I have to pay a lot more money to experiment and the feedback is much much slower.

This is from out front of the Bit again. All those fun neon-style lights we love so well.

I look forward to reading your thoughful comments and criticisms.

I don't know, the frame makes the light painting look like some unusual cloth or material.Bravo for trying something different!....rick

Roger - Thanks, mate. The title is something I say to my mom (because she really rushes about like that).

I wouldn't say I'm going to engage in a d v f debate, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing the pixel count and the exposure depth catch up to 35mm film.

Thanks for your input on the borders. I too was invisioning this big. Not quite on that Monet scale, but definitely larger than this screen of mine allows. To me they were to be handles so you could hold the thing and view the entire photograph without touching it, like maybe it was a glass plate or somesuch.

Love the patterns and colors to this one, James, and I like your blue 'handles'.:)

PS meant to say I like the blue borders.. I looked at them and thought what would the pic look like without em ( I am btw seeing this as an image printed about ten feet long) and I thought no he's right clever decision to bring them in

great title and an amazing work.. wonderful construction that is so typical of american expressionism. To enter a film Vs digital debate would mean (to me at least) to do a side by side exact replication which strikes me as a little difficult given the constructivist ranomality of the creation of the images you make.. so I say who cares. Lay 'em in the aisles mate.. may the fourth be with you

So you´re still not sleeping? I just wanted to keep the tradition going by asking this.

Khaled - Thanks. The film stuff will come slowly. I shot one roll of print film and one of slide. I don't have the gear to scan the slides, so I'll have to check around town to get one or two of those digitized.

I bought two more rolls of slide film so I can prepare some more luxagraphic slides--I'll be doing a presentation of my photography at the Henry Art Gallery on Tuesday 22 May.

Tuna - Well, I read an article where the mp resolution of 35mm film was about 25 and of course the, um, bit-depth (lightest to darkest at capture time) of film is still about twice that of digital (3 stops versus 6 stops for film). That's a lot more information. Digital will get there. I should think digital will have caught up to 35mm film within the next maybe three years.

No love for my handles. Yeah, those blue borders are supposed to emulate handles. So it goes.

John - Thank you. I'm glad you like it. There is certainly something of the self-replicating imbedded in there.

Annemette - Thanks. Yeah, that's one thing about city dwelling: neon abundance. But, as the saying goes, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

I think film is better than digitals on this kind of shots.Somehow results are more powerfull, effective and raw.I mean,in this way(film) I can feel "pure" painting with light. But those bluish borders on both sides are distracting,it can be better without them.

Very interesting and very unique artwork, full of lines, corves and many many colors that could be a macro image of a digital macroscope perchaps of the DNA chains!!! Fantastic!

PS: Not to sound negative, but I don´t think the frame is suitable for this photo, but that´s just my personal opinion;-)

Ah this reminds me of one of those globes or lightbulbs where you can place your hands and make your hair stand up in the air:-)
The path of colours is fascinating to follow being drawn into a fairy taleland.
I wish we had some more of such lights here where I live:-( We haven´t got any in the area where I live, so I must be inventive and find other sources of light to play with.
Have a nice day
Annemette
