About	Memorial to the piggy-back combination of Mercury and Maia, who flew from Dundee's River Tay to South West Africa non stop. On 6th October 1938 Mercury was launched over Dundee to establish an as yet unbroken non stop international seaplane distance record of 5,997.5 miles (9652 km) to the Orange River, South Africa. During WW11, the Tay became an important seaplane base, in the late 40's and early 50's I can remember seeing Short Sunderlands taking off, quite a sight!!!
