Ohhhh Jan practice makes PERFECT ...'you know that' and you'll get there ... My goodness you're giving it a really good try- and this is a good shot.
I think this bird squats funny and looses some neck to get his head into the feeder- (maybe not))) but my first thought-- Sooo it would be hard to sharpen both the head and body because of this.... It's a Very good first shot !!!!

Thanks so much, Doyle. I can selectively sharpen by color or image selection. I will play a bit and see if it helps.
I tried global sharpening with unsharp mask and anything beyond the slightest tweak went over the edge. I will play a bit and see if I can improve it.

LoL! Thanks a LOT Jan! Trying to make me blush? Listen Jan . . . I wish I still had it to show you (I do, but I don't know where) . . . my first shot was almost identical to this . . . well . . . except it was a red House Finch . . . but other than that, I-dent-E-cul! Ok, well . . . a tad bit sharper, and a House Finch . . . but other than that . . . Well . . . Oh Heck, it was different. But the same! LoL!
Anyway, awesome color . . . the crop and composition are great . . . I would think you don't need an ISO 800 and a slightly increased shutterspeed couldn't hurt. Can you use unsharp mask on different color ranges? It would be perfect in this case, leaving the BG green and feed alone and simply tweaking the Jay. When I find that finch shot . . . I'll have to show you. This guys a BEAUTY!

Thanks, Keith. I did sharpen very slightly but the lens is very soft at 300 mm and I was concerned about the negative impact of going to far. I used Unsharpen Mask but just a slight tweak. I agree it should be sharper.
