Location: Quiraing, Skye, Scotland.
In order that I could make the best possible use of first light breaking over the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye it was necessary to get to my location prior to sunrise. In summer that means about 4am. The sky duly turned the most gorgeous mix of pink and magenta topped off with bright orange as the sun neared the event horizon. I realised that although I could clearly see the sheep grazing on the shapely sculpted plateau of grass in front of me, Velvia was going to struggle. I was forced to fit 5 stops of ND grad to control the contrast differential to an acceptable level.
