Great shot! Hadn't paid much attention to Minolta in the digital realm. This will change that. Educate me. How did you remove the bird so cleanly from it's original background?

Alice, I think you are right about the harshness of the lighting. I think I should tone it down a bit before calling it a final version. Thanks for your comments.

Good work! Although I think that the light is a little too harsh, it almost distracts the viewer from the actual bird. I keep intending to build some hide material and collapsible poles, just to get photos of birds looking so relaxed! Well done.

LOL! The tail is great, but that head - looks like it's smirking at us - Bob T.

Thanks for all the kind comments. To answer Dawna, the cropping is only about 5 - 10%. It is pretty much full frame and shot from about 5 - 6 ft distance from behind a plywood hide.

Excellent shot. Amazing pose! I like the light too. Sharpness is about right. Would, likely does, make an impressive print.

beautiful work Pete, excellent image quality and sharpness. wonderful incentive for me to get out shooting some birds soon :) Nice to see you get such a good capture with a 300mm - did you do any cropping at all or were you that close? The merging in ps is very well done and natural looking - I see many attempt at this and the lighting is a giveaway (I myself am not that adept at ps to even try it)
I enjoy you work, look forward to more.

Wonderful work, actually you've used an amazing technique at Dimage 7i. It's one of the best outcome you can take with your cam.

Congrats !

Kind regards; Onur Aydin.

This is a perfect capture Pete. Excellent composition and very good sharp detail in the feathers. The background in this one is excellent - a perfect highlight for the bird. Wonderful work.
