I know what you mean about the tripod or monopod. But it is a trade-off. You get better shots but you miss shots too because it takes longer to get the camera aimed in the right direction. The theory with hand holding is that with higher ISOs you can shoot at high shutter speeds and thus camera shake and subject movement should less of a factor. I know it doesn't always work out that way. Joe

It'll come Joe, I still find I don't get the best shots hand held, but better with the monopod. Of course when I bring my tripod for my macro work, the shots come out really good, I guess thats why I see the best photographers always carrying around their tripod even if it is a pain.

Hi Art, Thanks for input. I'm not mad, as I said C&C welcome. In the about for other Tern shot, I said I had great difficulty focusing on this bird in the moving boat. This shot and my other one are the best of the lot. I looked to me that the beak and the eye were in reasonable focus. I may have just missed the feathers. I sure it's operator error not the equipment. I don't find this lens with my 30D or 5D any easier to focus then previous lenses I've had. That's why I had high hopes for the MkIII but the jury is still out on that camera. I feel I just need to improve my skills, Joe

Joe, don't get mad at me, but I have to disagree with Todd. Either the lens is front focusing or your focus point grabbed the post. Look at the post and you will see it is much sharper than the Tern. You should be seeing feather detail at this crop. Best regards. Art.
