About This "funnel" appeared out of no where in the sky across the street from my house about 5 minutes ago . It only lasted a few moments , and it , and the lightening were gone .
Now , we DO NOT get tornados in this part of the country , but , it certainly looks like one was trying hard to form up . Shot hand held .

Actually , Bill , there was no noise at all . It was completely , and totaly silent . Kinda creepy.
One moment the sky was blue , the next , it was black like the sun went down .

Nice Catch Rob... Great job with such a dark image... Glad the funnel didn't continue to evolve... How much noise was there with the funnel? Bill

Very scary, Rob! We're not supposed to get them here, either, but every now and then we have a very small tornado.

Unfortunately Chelsea , I really did not have the optimum lens on the camera at the time this event occurred . I took a few "landscape" type shots and then ran back in the house to grab my 17-35 AF-s lens . When I returned , it was over .

Wow! Extremely scary and a bit too close for comfort! Great catch and glad no one was hurt in the process!

Scary stuff. We're "not supposed" to get them in our part of Ontario, either, but there's been some dramatic cloud formations on some storm fronts these past few years. Did you get a vertical shot?

Thanks Melinda . Essentially , this image was only converted to B&W simply because the sky was sooo dark , there was almost no color anyway .
I will play with the original hi rez file a bit and probably make a 13x19 print :)

You were lucky in so many ways. To get the shot is fantastic. To get it without death and destruction even better. Have you edited this at all? A bit more contrast would be good.
