About One of about 600 species of Fig, the Strangler Fig starts as a tiny seed in the host tree, sending down its toots and its foliage upward, gradually overshadowing its host, which dies. The seeds are deposited by birds, rodents, etc, which then return to feed in lean times as the only food available.
