Hi Roger,
After the passing of some time, I have to agree with you.
The grafted head version was an experiment when I was having a go with some PS fun.
The image that I shamelessly copied this style from didn't have a grafted head either.
As I wrote in the about for this one, I saw an image by Arthur Tress, way back in the 70's that stuck with me for years. In his image it was a young boy buried to the waist in sand. He had some kind of seaweed coming out of his sleeves for hands. Quite haunting.
I always wanted to try something like that image. So, one rainy day at the cottage, I set up my tripod on the dock and gave it a shot.

Thanks Marcio, for visiting my portfolio.
As you can see, I enjoy trying a variety of images. I have to admit, these "darkside images" are usually the most interesting for me to create.
They sometimes stir some controversy, or a sense of being uncomfortable. But, if we don't feel anything at all from viewing an image, what would be the point?

Looking again and again at these two ones, I have to say that they just show something - or something that happened - out of the usual domains of reality, or even fantasy. They do transmit the atmosphere of something like "the mothman" but in a very detouched way. Perhaps this solitude of observing the impossible is the key to the connection to witnessing the "sad wings of destiny"?

I like that interpretation of one witnessing the "sad wings of destiny" A feeling of sinking, claustrophobic diminishing and decaying are all hinted here to some extent. So, your interpretation seems to help me understand my work better and the work of the photographer that I am copying.

The darkness still left the sharest details very strong, Andre, and that's what I find most impressive together with the surrealistic and somewhat horryfying atmosphere here. Especially the water looks so natural and yet so strange. It looks like existing under the weight of a curse but the person is not what causes that agony. It is the light. The person itself looks only just as being the unlucky one that was cursed just for some reason we can't know. And so it causes also sympathy for him, especially as he looks at the own hands and seems to not understand what happened and why.
Indeed one to think about but not the usual way. It's rather the sad wings of destiny that come into my mind looking at it.

If this one gives you goose bumps, you should try looking up the photographer that inspired it. Arthur Tress is his name. I think you would like his stuff. A bit on the strange, dark and odd side. This one is a loose copy of one of his images from a portfolio on Childhood Dreams.
Yeah, I didn't want too much of the model's face details in the image, That might have put the nightmare image right over the edge :)

Thanks for the review and visit.
How can I complain about not looking "weathered" enough:) That old coat is pretty ratty looking in real life, but somehow looks in good shape in the image. So, I know exactly what you mean.
It is very difficult for me to get that handsome model to look bad though ;)
Seriously though, check out images by Arthur Tress (with a search engine) for some great fantasy type images. The guy is genuinely freaky.

Super image, you have captured the mood really well. I'd say even better if the model and clothing were a bit more 'weathered' to blend seamlessly with the sticks. Love the vingrette
