Interesting idea for Niagara! I like the way you have balanced the drama of the falls with the sky above. While the exposure may not be as intented, the high contrast effect is a valid and dramatic reading of the scene. Another reason to think that the exposure is actually "correct" is that you have not blown the whites, which are holding detail!!! You let the shadows go, which is OK decision for the high contrast rendering.

Thanks George for looking and encouraging comments. actually I'm using trasparencies for a long time as you can see from other photos in my portfolio. but velvia for first time and I'm learning to use that particular film. but i still think the main problem i did here was not using a polariser in such a mid day shot. will definitely try that next time

Transparency film, such as Velvia has almost no latitude for over or under exposure. The best thing is to bracket your exposures at half stop intervals until you develop your own sense of how the film works best. On the bright side, you've got a great camera and the film is tops. The composition is pretty good, so once you start to nail the exposure, you'll be at the top of the game. Keep on shooting!

Thank you Mark for seeing. I guess it's not the software. it's the scanner. It's a flatbed scanner and not at all suitable for this kind of high contrasty shot. The shot was very soft after scanning.

Can you tell me what do you mean by way off exposure. I mean is it over exposed or under?

I should have used a polariser here when using velvia. I was really wrong here.

I have say that the exposure on this photo is way off (maybe a metering setting). And there seems to be issue with the software your using to reduce the capture size (it seems to have blurred the image).
